Is Hitchen's on the take? |
|
http://slate.msn.com/id/2091988/You have to wonder as I used to remember him as a hard nosed liberal. Maybe it wasn't making enough money or noteriety for him.

8. He workes for the Center for Popular Culture |
|
nothing free about his thinking, and his arguments have been so bad since the Iraq phase of the war, that I know he is not sincere.

My off thread comment is one of usage in the authors observation or opinion:
<"...I don't think we're so much guilty of ill will as of innocence, and to some extent our reporting reflects that." >
Innocence? Ignorance is not innocence. If one benefits from the policy and then chooses not to be informed, is that innocence or deliberately looking the other way? I think it is economically motivated indifference. Americans literally don't want to know. They "can't handle the truth" about themselves. As the intelligence officer said (who is not so innocent) "Who gives a shit?" His ticket still gets punched.

4. He is a whore for the fellow that buys his booze - a great writing |
|
talent still - rather sad to see him pretend to himself that he is voicing his own opinion.

He's a total right-wing shill.
He's a total self-promotional shill. It just happens that he's found that he can get more self-promotion on the right than from the left.
Hitchens is all about Hitchens.

6. Yes, I would have to agree with you |

about his relentless self-promotion.
I still maintain that he is a brain damaged booze hound, however. ;)

7. Gore Vidal, who has been in the business many years, |
|
said in an interview that since there's more money to be made in the right-wing press than in the left wing, Chris was just going were the money was.
I guess that's a polite way of saying media ho.

He can't resist the Scaife money to keep himself in booze. I do remember when he had a strong and decent voice during the Bush I time and he does have writing talent. I think I remember that he also betrayed Sidney Blumenthal with lies. I really don't understand The Nation and their alliance with Hitchens.

10. Snitchens left the Nation a while ago. |
|
He didn't like their editorial spin on Iraq, and readers bombarded them with letters because they didn't like his. I'm guessing they offered him an opportunity to quit and crow about it to the glorification of his ego, or else be canned, and he chose to pet his ego and go on his way to "$$greener$$" pastures.

I didn't know that. I remember Nation readers being annoyed by Hitchens but I didn't think The Nation management cared. I remember Hitchens having an argument during a staff meeting with someone, can't remember who though.

Shouting and insulting those he wishes to gag. In a bar he'd get his lights punched out. Probably has too.
