Asia Times: Gross stupidity in AfghanistanBy Ajai Sahni Oct 25, 2006 The US-led coalition is unambiguously losing the war in Afghanistan ... the Taliban and al-Qaeda have survived - albeit somewhat damaged - and, if current trends persist, will soon have the freedom, the power and the required setting to plan out their next wave of attacks against the West. ... Every single detail of what is occurring has been closely scripted, and Pakistan has been key to these developments from the very commencement of Operation Enduring Freedom to the present "reconquest" of nearly a third of Afghanistan by the resurgent Taliban. This, indeed, is the core of the enduring stupidity of US policy in the region ...

another "wave of attacks"?
If they do that, then another hard right winger will take power in the US, and more innocent islamic people will needlessly lose their lives from "stupid" American counter attacks. It'll give big business yet another reason to get "outsourced" by the US to help invade and occupy nations (to make money) at both the financial expense of American taxpayers, and the deaths of citizens of islamic nations.
Do people ever fucking learn? If they think America is so stupid, then why do the same thing to it again which caused such a "stupid" reaction?
*sigh*
America may be stupid, but are her enemies any smarter?
Perhaps, maybe their plan is to force America to spend herself into self-destruction.

I don't either side in this "fight" is all that bright; the leaders on both sides are ideological and reactionary, and the thumping of one's chest increases political power for the other, and vice versa.
As for another American retaliatory attack, indeed, an attack would be likely, but American resources are drained due to Iraq, maintaining the flow of oil will be a concern, and the "haven", this time around, is Pakistan -- a nuclear country, neighboring our outsourcing buddy India.
And, regardless of what we're told by Clueless Leader, al Qaeda is not looking to take over America. They simply want to break our economic back, forcing us to withdraw troops around the world and bring our era as the last remaining superpower to an end. All quite feasible if we "stay the course" in Iraq and Afghanistan.

5. p.s. My fear is that al Qaeda will strike us again, either after the Dems... |

... take over in the House or Senate, or the Presidency; or when we start drawing-down troops from Iraq.
They'll want to keep our military over-extended, and will love to see the effect of years of demonizing of Dems by Right Wing talk radio and Fox News. The Right Wing has equated Dems with terrorists for so long, that I expect many Americans will have psychotic breaks when we're hit again.
