Bill O'Reilly Needs Help: Fox Host Demands Letterman Apologize for Pointing out Fox Host's Inaccuracy

NEW YORK - November 6 - Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly and CBS talk show host David Letterman had a well-publicized showdown on Letterman's program in early January, so it came as no surprise that their next face-to-face on October 27 would be similarly heated. After the interview aired, O'Reilly accused Letterman of dishonesty for accurately saying O'Reilly had lied on his show, and challenged Letterman to produce the evidence.

O'Reilly took exception to Letterman's crack about him (Late Night, 10/26/06): "The last time he was on the show, I caught him lying."

As O'Reilly retorted on his October 30 broadcast:
Letterman caught me lying? What lie was that? There's no lie apparent in my appearance with him last January. Check the transcript. And we called his office to find out what he referring to. His staff couldn't define a lie either. So my following words are directed personally to David Letterman this evening: There was no lie, sir. Your statement was false and cheap. You owe your audience and me an apology. I hope you're man enough to give it.

Since O'Reilly seems to need help finding his own deceptions, let's offer some assistance.........

15. I know what his problem is...
He's told so many lies that he forgot which one he plopped out on Letterman's show.

4. When on the show
he kept repeating "We are friends, we bowl together" over and over.

Guess he did not like not only being bested but forced to say the Iraq war was about oil. Something he finally was forced to tell the truth about.

5. Why? Michigan beat Ball State by 8, not the 6 Letterman predicted...
Oh, you mean about O'Reilly's appearance on the show? I couldn't bear to watch but enjoyed reading about it later.

11. This is too sweet.......
Now he's in a feud with Letterman!!

Franken and Letterman are professional comedians. How does O'Reily expect to match wits with these two? I hope Dave does a cheney and tells him "Go fuck yourself."

I'll have to watch tonight to see Letterman's response.

17. i emailed o'reilly, hoping to cheer him up.
dear o'reilly --

i agree totally with you that it was cheap for david letterman to say you lied on his show.

this is america, my friend, and real americans don't kick people when they're down. if you were still at the top of your game and lots of people watched your show it would be one thing. but doing that to a guy like you is a different matter.

olbermann's been on your back for well over a year now. as your ratings have fallen and his risen, i can only imagine how much more embarrassing and hurtful it's become. i mean, having a guy point out to a bigger audience than yours every night the crazy things you've been saying really sticks in your craw.

then there's that crap with the abortion clinic in iowa or kansas or wherever. one bluster in a moment made for television, and suddenly they want you investigated. (i would say "make a federal case out of it," but hey that's what they might actually do.) don't people in this country realize that it's ok for you to make up things like that? sheesh.

now here comes letterman saying you lied. i mean, you know you lied. most americans know you lied. but for a guy to hammer you about it and tell everybody .... that's low down.

what's next, amazon gonna run culture warrior at half off? (don't worry. i just checked and it's still only 45% off the cover price.)

you hang in there, bud. grab hold of your peabody awards and don't take any more guff off those smartalecks.

20. "Read the transcript" is a typical O'Lielly defense.
Boring and tired, like all rightwing strategies.
