Santorum was his own worst enemy, analysts say

<snip>

"A lot of it is personal stuff that became much bigger than Rick expected," GOP consultant Charlie Gerow said.

There was his book that criticized the "weird socialization" of public schools and suggested that women who worked instead of staying home to care for their children were being selfish.

There were questions over his Pennsylvania residency and allowing state taxpayers to pay for his childrens' cyberschool tuition while he lived in Virginia.

There was his involvement in the Terri Schiavo right-to-die case in Florida, and his comparison of homosexuality with bestiality.

"It was death by a lot of little cuts, all of which, for people who opposed Rick, added up to a view of him being too rigid, too narrowly focused on conservative social issues and, to some, arrogant or mean-spirited," Gerow said.

2. I seem to remember a story about priests visiting him about "social justice"
issues, such as a living wage, lifting people out of poverty, good stamps, subsidized housing, etc.

He said he was there to stop abortion, that was it. "Social justice" was not his responsibility.

7. Why don't the analysts just admit that he is a self-rightous prick and bully?
That's the main reason he lost, just like George Allen.
Voters can only put up with self rightous prickness for so long.
