Hippies still trying to ruin the country

Be afraid...be very afraid.

America won't win another war until the 1960s flower children are pushing up petunias.
Radicalized, the flower children morphed into lefty loonies who now masquerade as social progressives. No matter what they rename themselves, however, their agenda hasn't changed.

They still want utopia, and it wouldn't be worth mentioning except that their naivetŽ has aged into a persistent denial of reality that may have devastating consequences.

For example, consider their continued belief that America's armed forces are neo-Nazi stormtroopers who delight in burning babies to further the aims of imperialistic corporations.

Such nonsense, now treated as legitimate by the left-leaning media, denigrates the patriotic values and sincerity of half the nation. It undermines the war effort, insults the dead and the survivors of battle and their families, and supports the aims of the enemy. Translated into immigration or national defense policy, it is an invitation to the world to destroy our country..."

Is this guy stuck in the past, stuck in a political rut from the past, or what?

6. Is that nonsense typical of this newspaper?
It seems like satire, but I suspect it isn't. I've never seen a group of more consistently ill-founded assertions. I guess it's just a belated reaction to the election, like a burp from a recently-fed child.

25. No, it's not typical
The Herald Leader is considered as a fairly liberal paper - though I would dispute that. The right wing does hate the rag though.
This was a guest op-ed. I was surprised that they ran this piece of crap...blamming the hippies for our failure in Iraq!
Consider that perennial candidate, Gatewood Galbraith, who lives in Lexington, wants to legalize pot, though he is also a gun rights supporter too. He consistently polls 33% or more in Lexington.
So, no, this screed isn't typical of the paper or this area.

8. ha ha
There are people who think the "hippies" are running things now.
A guy at work told me that and I replied, "Yeah, I am sure Wolfowitz is a hippie". To which he asked, "who's that?"
Case closed.
People are idiots.

If the hippies are running things then where is my cheap and legal pot?

13. Wow, I didn't realize people still hated hippies that much,
Did they find a time traveler from 1970 to write this article?

And you know, some of our troops haven't exactly dispelled the notion that they're corporate stormtroopers. Abu Ghraib, anyone?

Buddha-Allah-Wicca-Lenin? WTF? I didn't think Islam was all that popular among hippies.

14. You know what? She may have a point...
Deadheads are pretty much like hippies, right? And Ann Coulter's a Deadhead, so there's a concrete example of how hippies are, in fact, trying to ruin the country.

19. My e-mail to Jenean;
Jenean McBrearty lives in Lexington. E-mail her at jeneanmacb@hotmail.com.

Dear Jenean;

Your comedy piece on the hippies was a scream.

As they say, If it's not true it won't make you laugh.

First thought that comes to mind is Ann Coulter. She's an unabashed Dead Head, a follower of that washed -out drug taking hippie band. And yes, she does have the power of the media on her side.

The second thing I thought of was the Republican State House, Senate, and Governor here in Montana a few years back when they passed the hemp growing bill in our state. They just love their marijuana plants and will do whatever it takes to grow the stuff. These wackos were actually in charge of our whole state government!!!!!! That was before the adults took over, thank God.

Keep up the good work, and one day I predict, you will be writing for Saturday Night Live! That should pay a pretty penny more than the Lexington Herald-Leader I would guess.

Thanks for the chuckle.

Sincerely,
xxxxx
xxxxx, Montana.

20. I emailed this to the author
Jenean,

Um, you assert that we will not win any wars until the 1960's 'hippies' are gone, but didn't we win Gulf War I? Didn't we win in Serbia and Kosovo? I think you would have to color Grenada a military victory as well.

The lesson is that if we are going to go to war, two things must be in place. #1 It must be clear that we have gone to war because we HAVE to, not because one ideological group WANTED to. Second, the war must be expertly architected, if anything with MORE troops and logistics than are needed, not LESS.

Blame hippies if you feel you must to feel good about yourself or the party you support, but make sure in your heart and in your mind that you know the truth.

Steve Leser - Democrat, Anti-Iraq war from the beginning, but also USAF veteran and supporter of Gulf War I from the beginning.

28. Well, he's right about the imperialism part
Maybe he'd like to explain WTF 760+ military bases all around the world have to do with defending this country. Soldiers certainly aren't stormtroopers--they sign up because they think that they will be defending the country, but that hasn't actually happened since WW II.

does not make it go away.

www.spp.gov Yes, dot gov. An official web site from the bonafide government of the good ol US of A officially wants to abandon it's national soverignty in favor of a European style union consisting of Mexico, Canada and the US.

"Denigrates the patriotic values and sincerity of half the nation", well unfortunately that half of the nation are KoolAide drinking morons.
