Jesus Has Been Commercialized!
Edited on Wed Nov-15-06 06:41 PM by Anakin Skywalker
http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/11/14/toy.jesus.ap/index.html

Marine Reserves' Toys for Tots program turned this donation down. Read article for details.

I dunno. It doesn't seem very respectful of Jesus to turn him into a toy that quotes slogans, no more different than a talking Joe or Barbie. The Marines said that the kids want "fun" toys. I can already see what the boys are gonna do with a talking Jesus. It's going to be laying the smackdown on their sisters' Barbies. Kids will be kids.

Mods, please join this with an earlier thread if there was one. Thanks.

4. Honey, the girls would have him dating Barbie.
Unless it comes with a companion Mary Magdalene?

6. What a loser toy.
If I'd gotten one of those as a kid I would have turned him into Drag Queen Jesus, or taken him out in the back yard and used him for BB gun practice (I have my masculine side too)

7. They made the right decision.
I actually don't think there's anything wrong with a talking Jesus... given to children who would appreciate it, for families who have strong Christian roots.

But I think there are other ways to get the doll out to families that want it.

Toys for Tots isn't the only game in town. I've participated in many programs where kids ask for toys. Let them ask for Jesus. Get the toys out to CHURCHES that are distributing toys. Duh!!!

Asking the Marines to distribute that doll is the same as asking the US Armed Forces to prostelytize. I'm scared to think of such a precedent.

It's bad enough that Gideon puts Bibles in hotels...

8. I'd agree. Distributing this through churches would be much better.
