U.S. Involved in Iraq Longer Than WW II
this must be a neocon's major wet dream ...

WASHINGTON (AP) -

The war in Iraq has now lasted longer than the U.S. involvement in the war that President Bush's father fought in, World War II.

As of Sunday, the conflict in Iraq has raged for three years and just over eight months.

Only the Vietnam War (eight years, five months), the Revolutionary War (six years, nine months), and the Civil War (four years), have engaged America longer.

Fighting in Afghanistan, which may or may not be a full-fledged war depending on who is keeping track, has gone on for five years, one month. It continues as the ousted Taliban resurges and the central government is challenged.

2. All that matters is that we are at war - that's what "they" want
Victory? Strategy? Those are so last-century.

All that matters is that we are in a war and it is hoped that it is a perpetual one. Why? Because we need a good replacement for the Cold War.

Got to keep those defense contractors fed, you know!

Read "Confessions of an Economic Hit Man" by John Perkins if you want to have your political eyes opened wide.

3. Yes, but the war was going on long before the US got involved
The war started in 1939, the US didn't get involve directly until Pearl Harbor was attacked December 7, 1941. There was indirect involvement before that of course, but no troops were depolyed. The Russians and the British had weakened the German army considerably at great cost of life before we got into it.

4. You're right. The US were latecomers to the first two World Wars.
So now your government is trying to be extra-prompt about the next one. But then, punctuality is an easy virtue often found in people who have no other, more difficult-to-maintain virtues that they can boast about. I tend to mistrust punctual people; they're frequently shitheels, and nothing but trouble.

Like the Bush administration, for instance...
