Ethics Panel Finds No Rules Violations in Foley Case

By Susan Ferrechio Fri Dec 8, 3:24 PM ET

House leaders — namely Speaker J.
Dennis Hastert — did not violate the rules of the House earlier this year in the handling of reports that ex-Rep. Mark Foley (news, bio, voting record), R-Fla., had sent suggestive e-mails to a former page, according to the ethics committee, which concluded a nine-week investigation Friday.

The panel voted to endorse an 89-page report recommending “no further investigative or disciplinary proceedings,” against anyone in connection with the scandal, which is believed by many to have contributed to heavy Republican losses in the November election.
