Area Muslims want apology from Goode (Danville)
The Muslim community says it views the congressman's words as "seeds of hatred."

My former next door neighbor was a Muslim, and she was a real asset to the neighborhood. I hope she, unlike her spiritual leader, was wise enough to vote for Al Weed.

1. At least not everyone in Virginia agrees with Goode
Even Sen. Warner had more sense. Goode was pandering to his KKK base--maybe he's worried about migration to his district by people like, say, doctors, educators, etc, who are a little more open and tolerant and educated about other cultures-it would mean he'd lose his next election.

2. Why do people think forced apologies mean anything?
If I say I want punch you in the face, but later apologize, does that mean that I suddenly can be assumed to feel no ill will toward you? Highly dubious.

3. I don't know about "seeds of hatred"
It looks as if these loathesome attitudes have taken root and this is their first fruit.

"But don’t think Goode’s stock has suffered in Southside. He has
supporters who say he’s right about Islam and immigration."

For another example, what about that vile teacher who told a Muslim girl she was going to hell, again with the full support of his community?

4. Don't take the reporter's claim as valid-- here's my protest
Dear Mr. Baker,

Your conclusion that Goode's stock has not fallen in Southside does not follow from any of the evidence in your article. A single anecdote, or several, about individuals who continue to support him does not imply that there are none who have changed their minds about him. The Muslim leader quoted in your story voted for him and surely has a lowered opinion of him now. I have not voted for him since he changed party, but in the wake of this event (like the Macaca incident with Allen) I have gone from being mildly opposed to being excruciatingly embarrassed by my representative in Congress.

Only a survey would justify a conclusion about whether Goode's favorability has suffered in Southside in the wake of this incident. My guess is that it has indeed.

6. If questioning the war is aiding "the enemy" what would you call this? Those who are trying
to make this a religious war are doing much more harm to then anyone who protests the war. They are also doing it at the expense of democracy. Substandard people they are.
