Al Qaeda-backed group offers US safe Iraq exit

The leader of an Al Qaeda-backed group has offered to refrain from attacking US forces if they withdrew from Iraq within a month and left their heavy weapons behind, an audio tape posted on the Internet says.

"We call on (President George W) Bush not to waste this historic opportunity which insures you a safe withdrawal," the speaker said, identified as Abu Omar al-Baghdadi, head of the so-called Islamic State in Iraq, which was announced in October by Al Qaeda and groups linked to it.

The authenticity of the tape could not be verified, but it was posted on two main websites used by Al Qaeda and other insurgent groups in Iraq.

"We are awaiting your response within two weeks of this announcement," the speaker in the tape said, which was dated December 22.

Sure, we'll leave our heavy weapons behind so you can arm yourselves, not to mention cheap pictures of you dancing and smiling amoung them.

Of course, if they had visions of free stuff, it would last all of a week before special fuse F6 blew out because someone didn't change the hydraulic oil strainer after 2 hours of operation.
