Congressman Suggests Jesus Surge for Iraq

While the Bush administration has busied itself thinking up ways to sell a troop escalation in Iraq, North Carolina Congressman Robin Hayes had a better idea, saying stability in the war ravaged country hinged on “spreading the message of Jesus Christ...”

Hayes went on to offer this pearl of wisdom for a nation divided by sectarian violence: “Everything depends on everyone learning about the birth of the savior.”

It’s bad enough Sunnis and Shiites are killing each other, this man wants to introduce Christianity into the mix? Seriously, he’s in Congress. He makes laws!

2. I think that's an EXCELLENT idea!
In fact, I think we should send all these far-right neocon Christians to Iraq to personally spread the Gospel.

6. Jesus un-surge
Iraq of course used to have a thriving Christian minority of over a million (Saddam's foreign minister Tariq Aziz was a Christian Arab), but that was before the US and Britain set about destroying the country. Now hundreds of thousands have left amid growing sectarian violence and economic collapse through sanctions & war, many going to neighboring Syria which also numbers over a million Christians among its citizens. In demographic terms, US action has actually de-christianized what was once a secular multifaith society. Maybe they had the wrong Jesus.
