Bill Kristol and Fred Kagan's war games (GLENN GREENWALD)

<snip>

We have here the standard tactics of the warmonger -- namely, anyone who opposes Bill Kristol and Fred Kagan's latest video game fantasies are, by definition, unserious, irresponsible and want America to lose. But what is uniquely and appallingly dishonest about their new rhetoric tactic -- that we must all defer to the General -- is that Kristol and Kagan have spent the last two years, at least, insisting that Generals Casey and Abaziad, the commanders on the ground, had no idea what they were talking about because they resisted the neonconservative demands for escalation.

<snip>

The reason our foreign policy has been so incoherent, amoral and bloodthirsty is because the people behind it are. And until Democrats and other opponents of this extremist group commit themselves to stopping them and figuring out how to do that (and so far, at least, they've done neither), nothing will deter them in their insane militarism.

1. Every time I see
an article about these zeroes, I picture them having toy soldiers and machinery set up on a piece of plywood in their basements. They probably have fights over who plays general for the day. They are completely delusional and dangerous.

2. Neo-conservatism
Edited on Sat Jan-20-07 09:37 PM by The Traveler
has now been demonstrated to be an ideology of failure. While it may bring temporary benefits to the extreme upper classes, for the vast majority of Americans (and almost everyone else as well) it brings nothing of value. It is spiritually, scientifically, economically, morally, and strategically bankrupt.

Evidence of this is now apparent in the lives of average Americans. As a result, attitudes are changing. The American people have not chosen a direction, but they are definitely looking for a new one. Evidence of this growing awareness is the swelling popularity of the news programs of Lou Dobbs and Keith Olbermann. Despite the obvious differences in approach, both are now making a living by exposing the sterile assumptions of the neo-cons. And people are listening.

Long gone is the confident murmur of Republicans awaiting the establishment of a generational conservative shift. Instead, we hear more and more discussion in the media and around the water cooler about reviving the Labor Unions.

If, at this point in time, the Democratic Party does not succeed in metaphorically running these philosophical failures out of town on a rail, tarred and feathered, then they, too, will be revealed as being not only without a practicable ideological stance, but without any moral courage whatsoever.

We have to do this. America may not survive another neo-con experiment in the application of power.
