They have fought through sickness and death, but today the Laidler family won their battle to get compensation from a chemical giant for their deceased father.
The Laidlers are set to receive tens of thousands of pounds in compensation from a defunct asbestos company more than six years after their claim was settled.
And hundreds more suffering workers and families will get payouts in coming weeks.
Ronald Laidler, 70, set the claim in motion but died from the asbestos-related disease mesothelioma in 2002.
His son, Colin, 48, then continued the battle on behalf of his mother, Sarah. They are the first of hundreds of families, to receive compensation from the former Washington Chemical Company owner's Turner & Newall. The family will receive an undisclosed award after years of legal wrangling.
Ronald had worked for the company for 39 years, starting out as an apprentice plumber and retiring as a maintenance controller.
