Why Democratic Political Consultants Love the Iraq War (Brent Budowsky)

It is America versus Washington.

On matters of patriotism, honor, war and peace, reasonable people can disagree about the policy. What is extraordinary and unique in my experience is that on this matter the truth is that 98 percent of Democrats in Congress, 70 percent of Republicans in Congress, perhaps 100 percent of the Joint Chiefs of Staff strongly oppose the current policy in private but then act to continue it in public.

It is America versus Washington, and what Washington insiders don’t get is this: When 70 percent disapprove of them all, and they issue talking points proclaiming their own greatness, all this does is make Americans disapprove of them even more strongly.

On all issues involving the war and the troops, we have the most educated Americans in history. They cannot be fooled; politicians who insult them, with obviously untrue talking points, do so at their peril.

Never have so many been compensated so extravagantly to write anything so stupid.

Here’s my advice. First, tell the truth. Second, support the troops and vets in ways that are far more comprehensive and honorable than what either party is doing today. Third, fight like hell to change the policy.

When Washington begins to respect America, Americans will no longer feel 70 percent disrespect for both parties in Washington.

The way to win the election in 2008 is to respect the election of 2006.

1. I have an important question
Why aren't Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich, for example, doing far better if your point is true? Why doesn't anybody seem to flock to the truth-tellers? If it is so true that people can't be fooled, why are they being fooled in this case?

2. They both belong to the wrong party.
Ouch!

3. Not sure I understand
What wrong party does Kucinich belong to?

6. Their parties will never support either of them.
Kucinich will never be allowed any leadership role in the Democratic Party, and the same goes for Ron Paul with the repugs. They are each members of the wrong party, ie. a party that doesn't embrace or support them or their ideals. They are outsiders to the process.

There are no alternatives in our two-party system, short of creating a new party. I can fairly easily envision a new party where they would both be welcome, and I can easily see such a party winning the nation over. Folks on both sides already agree that they are getting fed up with the monsters that are in charge. A pox on both their houses.

4. Electability...
You see it time and time again here on DU, people who think that Kucinich has the right stand on a majority of the issues but say they will NOT vote for him -- even in the primary -- because he is not "electable".

At the end of the day, for too many, it's all about who "looks" and acts Presidential.

I have long thought that if Dennis Kucinich had looked like John Edwards, he would have been our nominee years ago. It's a sad thing to say, but true.

5. So people are fooled...just not by lying politicians
They are fooled by the mythology created through propaganda...the idea of "an American President" and how that person should be.
