WaPo reviewer complains Gore didn't use footnotes, so he can't source a quote |
|
However, Gore used endnotes instead. (reviewer never noticed) Oh that sloppy Gore! WaPo simply hates Gore and tries anything to shoot him down. It's pathetic and irrational. http://www.dailyhowler.com/dh061207.shtml

1. Oh Christ, Ann Coulter doesn't know the difference between footnotes and endnotes either |

2. Somerby asks: How pitiful has the Post become? |

I'll tell you. If someone quoted the Washington Post for a factual matter in a university level paper, they can expect a red mark- and possibly a reduction in grade depending on what it was being cited for.
That's how bad the Post has become- it's a laughingstock. Fox in print. They can't even write a straight up science article without using "some say" or citing some source or coloring copy to legitimize fundamentalist positions.

3. good grief! endnotes are favored by many scientists these days |

... because they take up less space than the older footnote method. (Journals like Science and Nature use numbered endnotes, for example.)
Funny to think that some people were bashing Gore for being "too nerdy" and getting too technical by citing so many sources.
p.s. it IS possible to put rubber bands around quicksilver (mercury) -- to address the complaint by the reviewer. You just have to solidify the substance by freezing it! A pretty weak analogy, as anybody who had the most basic grasp of science would realize ...

During the winter of 1768-69, British scientists in northern Canada took some of the earliest recorded temperature measurements in that region. Because it got too cold for their mercury-type thermometers, they had to estimate the temperature by observing how the mercury behaved out of the glass ... slushy, kneadable, or too solid to dent with the fingers, etc.!
