Hicks lawyer to be honoured by Aussie peers

Hicks lawyer to be honoured by Aussie peers
US military lawyer Major Michael Mori – best known for his vigorous defence of convicted terrorism supporter David Hicks – will be recognised by his Australian peers next week.

The Australian Bar Association will present Major Mori with honorary membership for his "exceptional service to justice and the rule of law".

ABA president Stephen Estcourt said Major Mori had consistently sought to have Hicks dealt with fairly and in accordance with the law.

"It is the time-honoured role for an advocate to stand between the state and an individual," he said.
