Questions of FBI civil liberty abuses add to concern over Justice Department

What did the attorney general know, and when did he know it?

That is the Watergate-style question that Congress, and the American people, need to have answered about Alberto Gonzales and his sworn testimony, more than two years ago, that the controversial anti-terrorist Patriot Act had not resulted in abuses of civil liberties by the FBI.

If the answers are not good ones, then a Watergate-style reaction, the investigatory beginnings of possible impeachment proceedings, would be the proper response. ~snip~
