Sister Of "To Catch A Predator" Target Sues NBC For $100 Million

The sister of a veteran Texas prosecutor who blew his brains out as he was about to be busted in an underage-sex sting set up by "Dateline" is slapping NBC with a $100 million suit.

Louis "Bill" Conradt grabbed a gun and shot himself as he spotted cops, reporter Chris Hansen and a camera crew from the popular "To Catch a Predator" segment outside his home on Nov. 5, 2006, according to a notice of claim sent to NBC yesterday.

The suit will be filed Monday in Manhattan Federal Court on behalf of his estate, said Patricia Conradt's lawyer, Bruce Baron.

"NBC was responsible for his death. They conducted their sting operation and intentionally and with negligence sensationalized the situation," Baron said.

I don't generally agree with stings, but on this issue of online underage sexual predation, I can't think of a better deterrent than this.

NBC didn't kill this man. He did. Properly. His shame was well placed. He is a cancer on society, and every child he touched was ruined and was a potential new offender, spreading the sexual deviancy like a sexually transmitted disease.

I wish more child molesters took the same route. (I used to work with sex offenders. It is IMPOSSIBLE to truly rehabilitate them. They are wired to offend, sadly.)

He was attempting to solicit sex with someone he thought to be a child.

Cops showed up, camera in tow, and he killed himself.

You are assuming that when the tv show tells you he believes it was a minor that they know that for a fact, and as we have learned in these threads, that may not be the case at all. The reality, ignoring what may or may not be in the alleged criminal's mind, is that no minors are actually involved in the alleged crime. So the crime itself appears to be entirely based on the mental state of the alleged criminal. That you are so sure you know that state is astounding to me. I find this sort of thought crime deeply troubling. All I am saying is, if you think you have evidence that X is a child predator, then perhaps the way to establish this as a fact would be to have law enforcement use standard police methods to catch X in the act of preying on an actual child, rather than having some ratings obsessed tv show do anything they feel like doing to make it look like that is what X is doing.

13. Apparently, they had enough on him to "save" him a trip to the sting house

Murphy police said Mr. Conradt had not gone to the Murphy sting house but they believed he would. Police were attempting to serve a search warrant for his computer equipment and an arrest warrant for soliciting sex with a minor. Law enforcement officials from Terrell, Murphy and the Texas Rangers were at the home.

If Conradt never visited the sting house, there is no case at all against NBC or Predator.

I don't know about you, but if I spotted cops, reporters, and a camera crew outside my home, and I hadn't done anything wrong, I wouldn't shoot myself. He essentially gave himself the death penalty. I'm sorry for his sister, but I don't see how the network could be held responsible.
