Bush's damage staggering
Frankly, i really do not think some of it can be undone.---the piece goes into some examples.

Column: I told you so: Bush's damage staggering

Dave Zweifel — 7/18/2007 12:21 pm
.............

It's unfortunate, but that is in fact the case in 2007 as even longtime Republicans are counting the days left until this administration is history.
.............

Frankly, it's remarkable how total the damage has been. The lies to get us into a war with Iraq and then the incompetence in handling it were bad enough. But the war is just a piece of the utter devastation that this administration has caused in everything from the administration of justice to the stewardship of our national parks, from the reputation of the Food and Drug Administration to the nation's ability to respond to emergencies.

If shortsighted ideology didn't get in the way of working for the common good, incompetent cronies did.

2. It pays to kowtow to a powerful ruler even if he is not a good man
Every one is out for then self and get it by this bending to seem to be with Bush. As Chaney runs the govt. and Bush jumps around trying to keep his ego in line. Odd that Bush does not seem to see he will be the 'fool' as all these other rake in the cash. I can not get over how like the last of the 19th century rulers of Empires he is like and they did just the same as their countries can down on them. To Turkey, Germany, Austria and Russia things were never the same. The English had learner long before that the people needed to rule them self.

4. "Staggering" is an appropriate descriptor.
But "grievously wounding" would be more descriptive. ("Irreparable" is also apt, depending on which of our multitudinous problems you're considering.)

The neocons have started great wildfires burning (so that they/theirs could profit from these fires; they're essentially arsonists, vandals and looters), and since it's beyond our power to put these fires out completely, great losses are yet to come. Although exactly how great these losses will be is hard to predict, since a wildfire is, well, wild.

However, the damage goes farther back in time than this psychotic little prick and his bedfellows, and it extends over a succession of presidents. Reckless neocon/neoliberal "free"-market economic policies have gutted this country; and just when we desperately need to rebuild, the dollar is devalued -- and the bank-account is overdrawn. (Economically much worse is to come, I suspect.) And we have failed miserably in: influencing the transitions of Russia and China in a positive way; supporting the development of third world countries; helping to create a new world order that serves the interests of the common people of all nations; developing policies that look forward to a new century, not hark back to the past; protecting the earth worldwide and moving towards a sustainable future; etc.

There's still a small window left to deal with many of our problems though. Which makes it all the more important that the next president not be someone who will continue failed policies (perhaps under some "progressive" guise).

If Bush gets away with this "executive privilege" assertion. It goes way past Nixon. I am surprised our good friends in Congress are not upset at being cut off at the knees like this. They should be yanking on the levers of power they yet retain, but apparently they are timid fellows.

9. Gee Duh-bya's Presudenchul Lie-bury
Something I've been ruminating in my head is the series of lies and coverups that have defined this Bush Administration. From the very start, even before he was elected his employment, military, and other factors in the supposed "making of" this cretin have been uncovered as a series of lies. If I were so inclined I suppose I could do a tree chart of the lies that led to other lies, and so on. What I'd love to see is a parody of this done on the net that is designed in the form of the "Prezudenchul Lie-Bury", where as one enters they are assaulted with various little bats and gnats of his famous verbal blunders and on the floors and walls are piles of rubbish, with vermin and other stinking trash oozing out. As one clicks on these piles they are led to a tree chart style list or clips that track the lies from start to present and how they involve much more than just the initial lie. The Lie-Bury could have infectious rodents and vile vermin scurrying around behind and through things with the faces of Carl Rove, Dick Cheney, and other contributors menacing around. There could be a childrens section with a Dick Cheney Puppet Show, where he's making several of the Bush Admin. puppets do his bidding. The Gee Duh-bya puppet could be a monkey clapping cymbals or something, or one of those inane paper puppets that just moves the lower jaw up and down. There could be a Punch and Judy show with Fox TV commentators getting into fights all the time, screeching in falsetto voices and smacking each other with plastic axes. Condy Rice could be the tour guide working furiously to try to steer the visitors away from the more damning stuff but in the end, just looking like a stool pigeon. At the end of the maze could be a gift & snack shop where you could buy various lies to wear or eat, and some alkaseltzer to go with them or a wet-nap to clean oneself with after the experience. The entire structure could be made to look like a house of cards and when one selects a card, the whole thing comes crumbling down. I don't have the technical skills but would like to see someone put something together to do justice to George W. Bush. It may need whole new wings given that he has 16 more months to lie, cheat, steal, and murder his way to Hell.
I don't have the technical skills to create this but would like to see someone else who does have the talent and skill run with it.

10. Those counting the days until this administration is history are likely assuming it will be history
around January 20, 2009, but executive orders suggest this administration thinks otherwise.

15. medical research
A huge number of labs are being shut down. The payline at NIH is in the single digits and it's 3 strikes and you're out. Research will be supported by the military, states and Big Pharma, plus some private donors with specific agendas.
