FOX: time to fight back
from OurFuture.org:

FOX: time to fight back
Submitted by Rick Perlstein on July 26, 2007 - 4:44pm.

Shortly before she died, my grandmother—one of the people, naturally, I loved the most in the world—broke my heart. Celia Perlstein, like most of our grandparents, didn't get out much in her final years; in fact, for the last few years of her life, I'm not sure she got out of her old folks home at all. I don't think she really wanted to. She was sure that beyond its threshold lay dragons: far-far-far leftists out to steal her Social Security; turbaned terrorists just itching to fly a jet into the First Wisconsin tower a few blocks to the south; quisling Democrats itching to help them do it; grandma-gutting criminal marauders just outside her door.

I'd look out of her eighth floor picture window, down at the scene she saw every day, half expecting to find that nightmare landscape before me. Nope: same as always, the brightly colored sailboats on Lake Michigan, kids and their parents feeding the ducks (Grandma used to take me to feed the ducks), happy, strolling Milwaukee couples—paradise. Where was she getting these fantasies?

One evening's visit, all became clear. She gestured at the blaring TV set. The excruciating grandma-volume was even more excruciating than usual, because she was visiting with her best TV friend. She told me how much she adored Bill O'Reilly. My wife and I cringed. Watching our latter-day Joe McCarthy on TV every night, she had learned, late in life—for this development was entirely new—how to hate her fellow Americans. I almost cried, because one of the people she was learning how to hate was me.

Watch this video: (video link at http://commonsense.ourfuture.org/fox_time_fight_back?tx=3 )

Reflect, for a minute, on who America's grandparents are being taught to hate: Americans who do what Americans are supposed to do, what our founders implored us to do: debate vigorously and in the open, the meaning of the public good. They used to call these people "citizens." They're "like the Nazi Party," Bill O'Reilly says. They are you and me.

You've known it for a long, long time: every single hour of every day, Fox News conspires to degrade the capacity of ordinary citizens fighting for truth and accountability from American elites. Now finally—finally!—we have a campaign to degrade their capacity. Their capacity to turn our grandparents into frightened shut-ins. Their capacity to steal America for themselves.

I've just become a proud "FOX Attacker". Now you can too. It's not a boycott. It's simply calling advertisers and informing them what FOX says. FOX can't survive that. Have a blog? Then help spread the word.

2. Actually, this is what right wing talk radio does.
The FOX can't stand that we have a voice to fight back with.

Actually, I think it's a plot by Australia to destroy America..... :)
Dumb us down so much with Murdoch's programming and turn us into an intellectual, economic and social quarantine zone.

12. For the same reason they are Nader Donors
If Nader was running as a Democrat He would be getting more Corporate money than Hillary, not because they like them, but because they have been perceived as the weakest candidates in a general election

17. It's about the bottom line,
period. Most corporations hedge their bets and give to both sides, but Murdoch probably sees HRC as good for business.

This site should give you a good idea of who gives to whom: http://www.opensecrets.org/index.asp

11. The Right can never stand up to honest discussion
First off because they have no honest discussion points. Any position taken right or wrong is for effect only and like the Bush v Gore SCOTUS abortion good for that moment only and not to be used as consistency in any other situation.

One of their favorite canards, is to accuse the left of Situational Morality, just as the say that there is a Liberal Media, or all the rest of their propaganda. We need to turn that one on them as well.

6. My rw mother started to hate liberals after listening, first to Limbaugh, & then O'Reilly.
She ended a particularly heated political exchange with me by asking, "What kind of thing have I raised?" I was stunned & speechless at her scathing tone. Later I sent her the Joe Conservative piece with a note, "You raised a liberal. You should be proud." We never spoke of that incident.

7. Republicans are very good at divide and conqueor.
Edited on Fri Jul-27-07 09:12 AM by The Backlash Cometh
It creates a lot of cognitive dissonance because we grow up believing we're equal, regardless of the color of our skin; and we believe that we have the power to succeed. Unfortunately, that's when the cognitive dissonance begins because Republican philosophy appeals to the most selfish part of the individual. The key being "individual." Suddenly, you find the unimaginable cropping up: Lincoln Republicans, and you have hispanics raised in Texas wearing cowboy hats, owning cattle ranches and spitting on the ground complaining about the lazy "N*****s."

That last part isn't make believe. I just described my Tio L----.

13. And, yet, after 9/11 they were the first ones to slap on their car bumpers, stickers that
read, "United we stand."

How quick they are to shut down dissent when they want people to march in step to their band music.

14. It's hard dealing with Relatives and Loved ones who are brain washed by Fox Noise.
My wifes Brother told us that the reason there are so many low fuel mileage small cars is because of Obama. WE just looked at each other and shook our heads. I told Her on the ride home that it must have been a Rush talking point.
