I'm disgusted
Edited on Sun Aug-05-07 02:01 PM by Mythsaje
"Oh, don't worry about what this last vote means," some people tell us. "Look at all the good things that they've done."

Whew. That's a relief. Here I was thinking they just gave Gonzo the power to wire-tap anyone he damned well pleased with no judicial oversight.

Oh, wait. They did. He's a proven liar and the best could do was give him a watchdog of questionable loyalties?

I feel so much better now.

Well, it could be worse. Then again, it WAS worse. Which is why we fought so hard to get a Democratic majority. We wanted this slow death of the Constitution to come to an end.

Pardon us for being serious about their Oath to the Constitution. We know Dubya doesn't think much of it, but, well, we expected better from our Democratic "representatives."

"Oh, did he break the law? We'll take care of it."

Five words we should be very frightened to hear about now. "We'll take care of it."

If a city government passed a law to cover for a local crime boss, it would be a scandal. If Congress does it to cover for a criminal administration, it's just "business as usual."

Yes, it's better we have a Democratic majority than a Republican one. No shit. But when a sizeable minority of OUR people cross the aisle to vote with them on something like this, it's going to stir up a hornet's nest of protest. That's not why they were voted in. We wanted someone to put a halt to this crazy train, not someone else to jump on board and tug the steam whistle while it bore down on us.

We feel betrayed and sold out. Maybe some can come up with excuses, or tell themselves that maybe "next time it will be different."

Keep telling yourself that. I'm still waiting.

No impeachment for Bush. No impeachment for Cheney. No impeachment for Gonzo. Instead, they get exactly what they want for Christmas, four months early.

:woohoo: :sarcasm:

No one is saying the Dems are no different than the Republicans. We ARE saying, however, that with some it's awfully difficult to tell sometimes. Why should we be satisfied with Republican Lite? Is it less filling?

If you don't like that we're pissed about it? Tough shit.

Go try to find sympathy for the poor, abused bastards on another progressive/liberal message board.

Good luck with that.

1. Well, don't get too frustrated Mythsaje, or even continue to vent your
frustration, or you'll have to put up with some arrogant snippy shit like this:

4. I don't doubt that at all. And I will too.

3. I have a hard time with party conservatives, too
and the only good thing about allowing an evil man like Gonzo to spy on us in our own country is that the whole thing will sunset 120 days after it takes effect.

Either they will have a bill that is palatable enough to get past the Senate, or they will be in a position to do nothing and let it die.

Personally, I'd feel better were they to continue with investigations and follow up on the imperial presidency's reluctance to part with nonexistent executive privilege with inherent contempt hearings.

As long as the Senate is so closely matched, no legislation that is passed will be particularly good legislation.

8. This isn't about Liberal or Conservative; it's about the Constitution
If they were REALLY conservative, they'd be more up in arms about FISA than any Liberal ever born.

5. We had a great victory!
I learned this last night. I was viewing this all wrong. You see, a majority of our Democratic congressional delegation didn't defect and vote with the War Party! Yeah!

6. And and and
the one's that did defect are busy formulating a plan for that 120 days. A little freaking late. What can they possibly do with only 120 days? I hate to think what they are going to do but it is OK, the majority is with us. :eyes: You know I hate the eyes smilie but I find myself using it a whole lot lately.

7. The CLP will be here
any minute now.

I am with you but then by this time I am so used to being sold out that I just simply will not take it anymore. 30+ years of voting and this is what it has come to. Not any more.
