Ouster by The People - OpEd
Ouster by the people
By Robert Dallek
Special to The Washington Post

Polls showing President Bush's approval ratings in the 20s and 30s and a New York Times survey reporting that people across the country are eager for an end to the current administration suggest that this nation has a problem it's going to have to live with for the next 17 months -- a failed presidency that won't reestablish its credibility with a national majority.

The political argument against Bush's continuing tenure is not frivolous. There are good reasons to see him as a failed president whose remaining time in office will be unproductive at best and destructive to the country's well-being at worst. But given the constitutional rules by which the presidency operates, there is no serious prospect of removing him from office.

2. Hard to throw the ass out when Congress supports him
They give him what ever he wants in the way of legislation and show no signs of challenging him in any way. You need some support from Congress before anything could happen.

4. Driving While Blind
The refusal of Congress to remove them transcends the boundaries of incompetence and becomes complicity. If you hold the door and give a ride to a man leaving the bank unaware that he robbed the bank you are an innocent pawn. If however you are aware that he robbed the bank and do the same things you are viewed no differently than the bank robber himself.

Congress talks one way and acts another, trading war funding for a minimum wage increase was in effect holding the door open for Bush. Congressional leaders proclaim impeachment off the table by whose authority do they proclaim that right? Last time I checked they were our servants to do as we direct them to. By denying the will of the people they are driving the get away car
