Pinochet's suits on sale ... to supporters only
Santiago, Chile
12 August 2007 09:23

Clothes of the late Augusto Pinochet are on sale at a central Santiago tailor's shop, but only to customers identified as the Chilean dictator's supporters, local media reported on Saturday.

About 20 pieces of Pinochet's wardrobe are on sale at D'Adriany tailor, mainly suits and jackets he wore between 1980 and last year when he died, his elder son Augusto Pinochet Hiriart told the La Tercera newspaper.

"They are the best, modern suits that he used at home or to go out for special activities, though not for special ceremonies," he said.

Each suit is priced at more than $2 000, the report said.

3. No, those are sacred relics.
I'm sure someone will open a Pinochet museum with the uniforms as the prize exhibit. I'm sure BushCo will chip in to build it.

Pinochet's suits are sold by son

Clothing once belonging to the late Augusto Pinochet, the former Chilean military leader, have been put up for sale by his son, reports say.

The suits and jackets were worn by Pinochet from the 1980s until he died last year, Augusto Pinochet Hiriart told La Tercera newspaper.

The suits were for everyday use, not ceremonies, said Mr Pinochet Hiriart.

More than 3,000 people were killed or "disappeared" during Gen Pinochet's rule from 1973 to 1990.

Pinochet son faces court charges

Gen Pinochet's son could face three years in prison if convicted of fraud
The eldest son of former Chilean ruler Augusto Pinochet has appeared in court accused of using fake license plates and owning illegal firearms.
Augusto Pinochet Hiriart, 58, denied 35 counts against him, which are linked to the illegal sale of cars.

Reports say prosecutors in the town of Curico are seeking at least a three-year prison sentence for Mr Pinochet.

The trial comes after his father lost legal immunity against allegations of human rights abuses while in power.

Accompanied by his lawyer, Aldo Duque, Mr Pinochet told the court he was not guilty on all counts.

The charges against him carry possible sentences of between 61 days and five years in prison.

Some of us are very aware that there has been a faction of complete fascists there for a long time. Probably why he had enough support within the country to torture and slaughter so many leftists.

I have no idea why they saluted that way, not being psychic. I don't think I'd want to know. Some interested DU'ers looked at some very strange photos in the days of and immediately after his lying in state, and funeral.

On edit, adding photo published December 14, 2006:
