Craig expected to resign, possibly as soon as today
http://rawstory.com//news/2007/CNN_Craig_likely_to_resign_0831.html

CNN reported live on air at 9:02 am ET that Sen. Larry Craig (R-ID) was expected to resign after an escapade involving the solicitation of an undercover police officer in a Minneapolis bathroom.

"Several well-placed GOP sources in Washington and Idaho say embattled Republican Sen. Larry Craig is likely to resign soon, possibly as early as Friday," CNN said.

"A GOP source with knowledge of the situation told CNN's Dana Bash that the Republican National Committee was poised to take the extraordinary step of calling on Craig to resign."

Fox News followed up moments later by saying the senator would resign today.

Party leaders were going to issue a statement calling on Craig to resign, but held back. Craig is suspected to have told them he would do it himself.

1. Does the governor of Idaho appoint a replacement
or would there be a special election?

2. I believe the governor (R) would appoint a replacement until a special election can be held

3. Actually, I think the replacement
will last until the next scheduled election in 2008 - I don't think they will have a special session.

4. The Democrats were right to stay out of this.
His homosexuality is not an issue.

His behavior and judgment is an issue, as is his hypocrisy. But those actions were forced by his own (and his party's) policies and beliefs.

It's not up to us to call for him to resign (especially since it won't shift power) but instead for us to bemoan the attitudes that lead men like him to feel the need to be closeted and seek to fulfill their desires in inappropriate ways.
