Body of missing blonde white girl found! (and in other news....)

We are witnessing the foundation of the global economy collapsing in front of our eyes, but you wouldn’t know it from reading the news. Newspapers and television around the world are fixated on the trivial. The BBC cannot resist front-page stories about the death of little Madeleine McCann, and the prospect that her parents may be charged in her murder. This story also features prominently in the U.S., but this morning it has been superseded by the one headline that trumps all others – a missing blonde, white girl’s body has been found!

Oh yes, there were some stories about Friday’s employment report, which shocked the financial markets because businesses lost a net 4,000 jobs rather than creating the 100,000 or so jobs that economists had anticipated. Some economists were quoted as saying that a recession may be arriving soon in the U.S., though most were content to raise their odds of recession to the 30% range.

2. I'm fairly cynical, but lord, that is cold.
Don't dump on people's human reaction to dead little girls, please. Yeah, the media exploits that reaction, but if it's not there, people aren't behaving like natural human beings.

3. You know what is cold? Never ever announcing the disappearance of a black or Hispanic person

Now that is cold.
When was the last time you saw Laqueesha the missing girl in the front page of CNN? What about Maria?

Remember that what is being asked is not that the media stop providing information about missing white girls, but that everyone is treated equally. FBI statistics show that 20% of abducted women are African American, and I've seen statistic showing that when it comes to missing children, Hispanic and blacks are victims often. The media is helping only one segment of the population, which happens to be the segment that network executive target because they represent the bulk of their audience.

How do we suggest we approach this issue differently?

4. If you'd said that in the first place, I'd have said nothing!
You chose instead to demand that missing white girls be treated no higher a priority than a MONTHLY EMPLOYMENT REPORT.

I'll say no more.

5. no comment about the little girls OFF TOPIC sidebar
Your user name brought back an old memory of a Hank Thompson song;

Artist: Hank Thompson
SQUAWS ALONG THE YUKON Recorded by Hank Thompson Words and music by Cam Smith
There's a Salmon-colored girl who sets my heart awhirl
Who lives along the Yukon far a- way
Where the Northern Lights, they shine, she rubs her nose to mine
She cuddles close and I can hear her say.

CHORUS

<*OOGA-OOGA MOOSKA>, which means that I love you
If you'll be my baby, I'll <*OOGA-OOGA MOOSKA> you
Then I take her hand in mine and set her on my knee
The Squaws along the Yukon are good enough for me.
She makes her underwear from hides of Grizzly bear
And bathes in ice cold water every day
Her skin, I love to touch, but I just can't touch it much
Because her fur-lined Parkas' in the way.

8. Sad as their deaths may be, these kids are only of notworthy interest...
...to their immediate family and friends. On the other hand a collapsing economy, dodgy voting machines, and a plethora of other happenings around the world are of great interest to all of us.

7. i love watching the markets.....
they thought the jobs were going to increase by 100,000..just where and how did they think those jobs were going to be created? by some mystical force? then they go into a tizzy when it turns out a net 400o jobs were lost....boy o boy that`s enough to make them piss their pants. the market needs to be corrected back to reality and it`s going to be a rough ride. if the boys can`t handle it they should find another job. to bad they did`t realize this country has been in a "wage recession" for years and the great unwashed know that all to well....

9. don't you guys remember the early 80's? right after Reagan got elected there
was this movement to make the news departments of tv etc, self-supporting. Before that the money came from the entertainment section, suddenly there were a lot of journalists who were fired and laid off. They slashed the news departments everywhere. This is what comes of that pure capitalism.
