Americans sacrificing money for war

Over the past few years you have heard me express concern that most of us are making no sacrifices in this war we are waging in the sands of a foreign land.

Perhaps the thinking expressed about sacrifices needs a little altering.

The costs of the war in Iraq and Afghanistan are staggering. And the rebuilding of just the ordinary infrastructure in those war-torn countries appears so high that it might be impossible to even do. And, of course, we cannot discount the graft and corruption that appears everywhere. What amazes so many of us, is the confusing order of events and who pays for all of these rebuilding efforts.

America is constantly being berated by the world for our so-called greed for oil. Well, shouldn't there be some compensation for what this goofy war is costing us?

Is it right that U.S. taxpayers just keep funding the rebuilding of a country where religious segments keep killing each other? Have you ever heard of such craziness? They will attend religious services, listen to how they should live in peace and then leave and go about their killing of each other. No wonder there are a lot of people screaming for America's withdrawal from such insanity.

Sacrifices for the war effort came to mind recently with the collapse of the bridge in the Twin Cities. The bridge was known to be structurally deficient - would there have been more money, sooner, to fix it without the war?
