Greenspan: Euro Gains As Reserve Choice
Monday September 17, 8:07 am ET
Report: Former Fed Boss Says Euro Could Replace U.S. Dollar As Favored Reserve Currency

FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) -- Former U.S. Federal Reserve chairman Alan Greenspan said it is possible that the euro could replace the U.S. dollar as the reserve currency of choice.
According to an advance copy of an interview to be published in Thursday's edition of the German magazine Stern, Greenspan said that the dollar is still slightly ahead in its use as a reserve currency, but added that "it doesn't have all that much of an advantage" anymore.

The euro has been soaring against the U.S. currency in recent weeks, hitting all-time high of $1.3927 last week as the dollar has fallen on turbulent market conditions stemming from the ongoing U.S. subprime crisis. The Fed meets this week and is expected to lower its benchmark interest rate from the current 5.25 percent.

2. That's it we will just have to blow up the world
If they don't want to play with us, we will just have to destroy it all.

:sarcasm:

4. He is right.
We used to be so proud of our economy and the Almighty Dollar. Thanks to the Republicans and Bush, that is all changing. But Americans won't realize that this has changed until after the next president takes office. That is what happened during Carter's administration. The real damage was done to our economy during the Nixon administration -- when Nixon just let the dollar free fall and the prices of oil rose and when Nixon continued to fight the Viet Nam War (which cost the U.S. untold amounts of money and nearly bankrupted us).

Do these facts sound familiar.

And -- these Republican Federal Reserve guys. Remember how Greenspan forced Clinton to tighten the government's belt through manipulation of interest rates, and how he let Bush spend and spend and borrow and borrow and only now is letting us know that Bush has ruined our economy.

Sorry. I have to rant a bit.

9. Conscience is not a part of the Ayn Rand philosophy
I read all her books that were available when I was in college. It's about as workable as Karl Marx (I also read some of that). They are both extremists who have interesting views of the world. They draw drastic conclusions that may sound very logical on paper but that don't apply to reality at all well.

Could the fact that the human brain is not mature until the mid to late twenties have anything to do with it?

12. A lot. I don't think her brain ever matured.
I don't think she ever loved anyone. Her philosophy did not allow it.

13. agree, was interested for awhile, she was hyper-intellectual
and all consuming mental masturbation by her inner circle and offshoot groups. I always thought it was rather ironic that there was so much intense, dramatic 'emoting' by the Randites as they blathered on about superior intellect and hard, cold, drastic application.
Such fermentations of the brain!
