Speech fails to overcome questions of credibility - from Maui

HONOLULU - Members of Hawaii's all-Democratic congressional delegation were unsurprisingly critical of President George W. Bush's State of the Union address Tuesday, denouncing what they called an overly rosy assessment of the nation.

Bush talked of a strengthening economy and successful anti-terrorism efforts in a 54-minute speech flooded with Republicans' applause, and made mention of many other issues, from steroids to sexual abstinence to same-sex marriages. Hawaii's representatives in Washington, D.C., however, were not impressed.
