Indian Outsourcing Hit Hard
By Christopher Nickson
Staff Writer, Digital Trends News

The undersea communications cable break in the Mediterranean has had a huge effect on those Indian call centers.

Outsourcing has become a major bone of contention in a number of countries. You call for help or tech support and find yourself talking to someone in India. Well, for the moment your probably won’t.

The undersea communications break that occurred near Egypt on Wednesday is having major repercussions. Not only has it disrupted Internet access to much of the Middle East and India, but the associated phone problems have hurt the call center business in India.

According to the BBC, about 50% of India’s bandwidth is down, and when you consider that outsourced business in the country, serving IT and other businesses, is worth $48 billion, that’s a major blow.

"The companies that serve the US east coast and the UK are worst affected," Rajesh Chharia, president of the Internet Service Providers' Association of India, told AP. "The delay is very bad in some cases. They have to arrange back-up plans or they have to accept the poor quality for the time being until the fibre is restored."

It could take up to a week for full service to be restored, experts say.

4. English, please, Gunter! We only have American educations!
We have a hard enough time reading English, let alone German! My translation program says your sentence means "The Order of the Beast is a cheeseburger and fries, a cheeseburger and fries for the Father of All Lies."

18. It's a Quotation from the Musical "Carnival"
an inside joke---

There's a puppet speaking to the heroine (her future lover is the puppet master):

"He meant that as a compliment, my dear. Very few girls are able to reach a C. I of course, have been known to hit high M above L....

I'll never forget when I was singing Aida in Carmen, or was it Carmen in Aida? Anyway, my best role was "Barbara of Seville!"

13. Cui bono?
What really happened in Haditha and Falluja? How did we find out?
What was Riverbend's experience in Baghdad? How did we find out?

Did the M$M tell us the truth? Or was it independent reports from eyewitnesses delivered over the 'Net?

The Internets are the enemy. It is powerful, but oh so fragile.

Something is going to happen. And all the information we get will be propaganda. We need to learn to read the news the way Soviet and East German citizens did back in the day.
