Kelly Tilghman and Bill O'Reilly "lynch" comments show difference between the golf world and the Fox
-----

Of course, living in a civil society is the complete antithesis of what political entertainers like Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Michael Savage and Bill O’Reilly are after. Civility doesn’t pay the bills. So despite an outcry from the public, despite a rebuke from the President, here’s how O’Reilly chose to frame his opinion on a comment by Michelle Obama, wife to Presidential candidate Barack Obama:

“I don’t want to go on a lynching party against Michelle Obama unless there’s evidence, hard facts, that say this is how the woman really feels.”

Now if you think this was a slip of the tongue by O’Reilly, than you’ve obviously just landed on this planet. Talking about a dinner he had with Al Sharpton in Harlem, O’Reilly had this to say:

“(I) couldn’t get over the fact that there was no difference between Sylvia’s restaurant and any other restaurant in New York City. I mean, it was exactly the same, even though it’s run by blacks, primarily black patronship.” O’Reilly said, adding: “There wasn’t one person in Sylvia’s who was screaming, ‘M-Fer, I want more iced tea.’”

-----

For Fox News and O’Reilly, however, this type of inflammatory, racist language is something they do embrace. And obviously, so do a majority of their viewers and listeners. Because in the end, O’Reilly and Fox News won’t get so much as a slap on the hand and won`t consider apologizing. Kelly Tilghman, making a stupid joke about a man she knows, gets a suspension and a huge speed bump for her career. Bill O’Reilly makes a non-joke about a lynching party forming to get the wife of a prominent politician, just adds to his legend as someone who “speaks for the people,” which apparently is the Fox News code for “unrepentant racist.”

1. Obama's or Clinton's FCC will throw this pudknocker off the air
The Bush Junta let their propaganda outlet (Fox Noise) spew RNC slur policy.

3. God I hope not
The First Amendment is there to protect UNPOPULAR speech. Clearly, O'Reilly's a repugnant racist piece of shit, but he has the Constitutional right to be a repugnant racist piece of shit.

We had Imus getting fired (though of course he is back on). Shuster got briefly suspended for the pimping comment on Chelsea. This lady got disciplined. But rarely are these RW racist, bigotted, sexist, idiots ever called on their words or disciplined by their bosses or by the stations carrying them. And some of them are even rewarded with TV shows ala O' Reilly, Hannity, Beck, etc.

Coulter can say the most vile crap and NBC and MSNBC, CNN, keep inviting her back.

They have a right to say what they want but the execs broadcasting their vile have the right as well to tell them they went over a line or to pull/suspend them.

5. They weren't fired by the government.
We had Imus getting fired By CBS radio.
Shuster got briefly suspended for the pimping comment on Chelsea. By MSNBC.

Note that the FCC, or any other government agency for that matter, was not involved in either case, and nor should they have been. I'm not arguing that corporations who own media outlets don't have the right to fire their employees you make stupid comments - not arguing that at all. I'm simply responding to the poster above who seemed to think that a Democratic administration (Clinton or Obama) would dare to try and enact such an egregious abrogation of First Amendment rights. Because, if we've learned anything over the last eight years, we've learned that Democrats are the ones who actually read and understand our nation's constitution.

6. Yep. While they shouldn't monopolize airwaves, it's good to hear the bile that's in their hearts
so we remember why we have to participate.

2. the whole tiger woods thing was a non story
that became a story because there was no story. the woman was a good friend of tigers and tiger stated there was no harm-no foul but the media could not let it die.

o'reilly`s statement reeked of racism but he gets a pass....another "proud" moment in america
