Huckabee: "Cut Some Slack" Quote & Some Easter Reflections By Stephen C. Rose

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mike Huckabee's full reaction to Barack Obama's Tuesday Speech, courtesy of Andrew Sullivan.

Huckabee wins my Easter Decency Award. He said:

"We've gotta cut some slack to people who grew up being called names; being told you have to sit in the balcony when you go to the movie; you have to go to the back door to go into the restaurant; you can't sit out there with everyone else, there's a separate waiting room in the doctor's office; here's where you sit on the bus .. . And you know what? Sometimes people do have a chip on their shoulder, and resentment, and you have to just say, "I probably would, too. I probably would, too. And in fact, I may have had more of a chip on my shoulder had it been me."

1. Agreed
I like Huckabee, I disagree with him on somethings of course, but think he is a decent sort, not perfect, but who is? Just my opinion, but if Obama wins the nomination and general election I would find a job for Huckabee in his administration. Perhaps head of FEMA or something alike. I think the guy cares about folks, would be a good administrator (he did run a state as gov) and could do a good job.

2. A lil too much leeway there
I wouldn't want crazy huckabee near the federal government.

however, I agree that he does seem a somewhat decent sort, despite his own shady past with benefactors and such. but he seemed to really grasp the nuances of obama's speech and race in general. he just had a real common sense approach to it, about it being a generational difference.

he would be someone to go to when it comes to evangelical support on issues like the environment and race. theres a strong movement in the evangelical crowd right now to protect the environment as being good stewards of God's earth. huckabee would be someone to reach across the aisle to bring awareness to that and get support for the environment and poverty issues. someone who can go to churches in florida and alabama and talk to people there about our common interests in protecting our environment and working to fight poverty.

3. This is why people responded to Huckabee
He seems humane, in contrast to the average GOP candidate.
