Current Events Have Surpassed 'The Prisoner'

>Current events bear an uncanny resemblance to the 1960s plot of The Prisoner starring Patrick McGoohan.

What a difference thirty years made in my reaction to this series. When it first aired, I purposed to decipher hidden themes as one might in a novel. Today, a DVD screening resulted in...pure laughter! The parallels with today are so obvious as to attain comedy.

Everything's there: rigged, meaningless elections, group consensus, fake Village news, pervasive surveillance, mind control, command orders telexed from shadowy off-shore power pyramids, false-flag dissident stings, evil medical procedures, star-chamber pseudo-justice based on "the rules," secret elite control bunkers. And yet the daily proclamation is to be happy and "mutual" in a crayon-colored paradise.<

4. There's quite an irony here ...
.. in that McGoohan is/was a man of the far right who famously devised "The Prisoner" as a "warning" of what a "liberal" concentration camp would look like in the future.

Seems more like politics in a Randolph Bourne vein -- skeptical of state power, from the get go...
