More Time for More of the Same? (NYT editorial)
Published: April 8, 2008

Americans this week get another chance to take stock of President Bush’s war-without-end in Iraq ... We’re not sure which specific argument the general will make: there is too much progress for American troops to leave now — or not enough ... Meanwhile, the toll in lives and treasure mounts ...

Among the questions General Petraeus needs to answer is when will the Iraqi Army be ready to fight? How — after all of the American training and effort — does he explain the 1,000 defections in Basra? And why should Americans believe that his strategy deserves more time or has a real chance of success?
