Gene Lyons believes Obama’s remarks feed class resentment
Make of it what you will

snip

Predictably, this unfashionable observation drew accusations of racism. I responded by e-mailing news reports of Obama’s final renunciation of Wright. As the candidate himself had now thrown the controversial preacher overboard, was it still racist to criticize him ? Nobody responded.

1. I'm tired of conservatives referring to class warfare
They expect us to accept the lower status they assign us WITHOUT resentment?

2. Ummm....what it does is actually open up the subject of class warfare
Which is of course anathema to Lyons and the rest of the DC chattering class. Nothing terrifies the elite more than discussion of real issues to working/struggling people.

6. Lyons is hardly the DC chattering class.
Blacklisted for exposing corruption in government. Lyons lives nowhere near D.C.

3. I hope it does, as in this case Obama did more to fire up Dems than even Edwards did
Seen Clinton's likability numbers that just came out today?

Her (and BILL'S) favorable numbers have declined BELOW her unfavorable numbers for the first time since her campaign tried putting a happy face on the anger of rural americans just to bash Obama.

(Yes, Bill now has more people that dont like him than like him. First time since his first term in office in the early 90's.)

In fact Obama's favorability ratings went UP.

Even Edwards, with all his great talk of the downtrodden average american never succeeded in firing up the voters against the excesses of the upper classes in the way Obama's offhand remarks did.

And you know what, its about damn time!

5. "they" want us to think we're a class-less society
one of the many tricks in their arsenal. Pretend we're all actual equal, offer the hope that someday YOU TOO could be a millionaire and feed us plenty of bullshit, keep our bodies numb with too much work and crappy food, keep our brains numb with misinformation, disinformation and dumbing down everything. They can't let us become aware that we're just proles. What if the proles get uppity and decide to unite? Problem is that too many people are so bogged down in every day prole life that they can't see what's happening. But I really believe that's starting to change. It may take another revolution but gods I hope it doesn't come to that.

7. why I love Lyons
"Never mind that Obama’s been touring Pennsylvania touting his own religious piety and opposition to NAFTA, or that Sen. Hillary Clinton seized upon his remarks with the awkward zeal of a basset hound pouncing on a pork chop."

Very Twainian.

8. Good. More class warfare is needed. It's all been coming
from THEIR team too long.
