Bush announces greenhouse gas strategy. Surprise It's bad.
Source: Wired

President Bush delivered a speech today in which he outlined a new strategy to "effectively combat climate change." Unfortunately, on my initial read of excerpts from his speech, it seems deeply, deeply flawed.

Bush is finally publicly admitting that emissions should be curbed because they affect the climate. That's fine, but his proposed response doesn't logically follow from that statement of fact. If you think the greenhouse gas emissions are a problem, then you should craft a solution that reduces them. But Bush, instead, is suggesting that no mandatory caps be put in place, that no specific targets be fixed in the near term, and that no moratorium be called on coal plant production.

Essentially, he just says, let's wait ten years and then do something. The initial IPCC draft roadmap called for rich nations like the US to make reductions of "25-40 percent below 1990 levels by 2020." Bush's plan would not only result in no reductions, but would actually allow for continued growth in emissions until 2025!

This speech strikes me as a desperate, half-baked ruse to stave off the real climate change legislation that is almost sure to come down the pike during the next Presidential Administration. On this issue, a new President cannot take the Oval Office fast enough, be it Obama, McCain, or Clinton.

2. No.
McCain is not an alternative. We need to cut this meme down right the hell now. McCain is not better than bush, more articulate possibly, but no better. The failings and flailings of Bush inccorporated are not merely meandering idiocy, they are the DIRECT result of conservative policy taken to its illogical conclusion.

6. McCain's environmental rating is zero
He doesn't vote against his big business bankrollers even by accident. McCain is indeed, no alternative to Bush.

But after denying and ignoring the problem for seven years, President Gentleman's C does what every poor student does: Cram like hell the night before the final and hope that 13 weeks of waste and dissipation can be made up in three hours. That can sort of work in the gut courses, but for classes at 200 level and above, it doesn't work so good.

And, of course, the payoff for this half-assed proposal doesn't come until 2025, and Bush will be five years in the grave by then, when with any justice in the cosmos he will have a great deal more personal experience with overwarm places.

3. Who could possibly expect this slug to do anything that...

might remotely seem plausible as doing something positive?

Everything about his "man" is negative. He has done absolutely nothing that can be considered anything other than disastrous. I am not surprised that this is something he will push off on not just the next PotUS, and the next congress, but he would shove this off on the next generation is he could. He now admits the obvious, there is a problem, but doesn't do one thing to curb the situation, how bush like.

The man is a complete and utter disaster. Everything he has touched has turned to dirt, (or worse), the only thing he has ever cared about was getting more wealth into the hands of the already wealthy, every thing else be damned.

This nation has tackled every problem that has ever come down the pike, until Reagan. Now, with this simian in charge, we have gone back to the early 20th Century in our ability to deal w/modern and dangerous problems of the 21st. The damage this man and his minions have done is incredible, we are seeing just the tip of the disaster the past 8 years has been. The next PotUS and congress is going to have their work cut out for them, and if history holds true, it will take twice as long to repair the damage.

McCain? There is a joke, not one thing would change, in fact, it would get expotentially worse.

7. That's not a greenhouse gas strategy.
It's a delaying tactic.
