Karl Rove's "hijacking" of the federal Department of Justice
"I think Karl Rove learned two things out of Watergate. ... He learned that you didn't have to create a secret plumbers unit within the White House when you had the Department of Justice. If you just appointed the right U.S. Attorneys, you could accomplish the same thing and more. And the second thing I think Rove learned was, you don't leave evidence behind like Nixon did with his tapes. You destroy e-mails."

1. Destroying the email messages itself should be a crime ...
... isn't it?

And, I imagine those email messages are all archived somewhere, probably multiple places.

2. Siegelman is alleging a conspiracy.
History shows that to prove a conspiracy, you usually have to start examining the conduct of the individuals in the outer periphery of the conspiracy. They have the most to lose. They may have committed a crime with a relatively small penalty (or potential for damage to reputation) or sentence, but if convicted as members of a conspiracy for the crime with the larger penalty (or potential for damage to reputation) or sentence, they have the most to lose for the least gain.

The key here is to find out what happened in Baldwin County, Alabama with regard to that vote recount.

Here are the election results for the 2002 election in Baldwin County

3. Since the same criminals who did the crime would be invesstigating,
I would say it's a long shot. Hopefully Obama's DOJ will apply long prison sentences to all of these people.
