No End to War
Buchanan on Perle and Frum. Not a liberal source,
but he wields a wicked scalpel here.

An End to Evil: How to Win the War on Terror opens on a note of hysteria.
In the War on Terror, writes Perle, "There is no middle way for
Americans: It is victory or holocaust." "What is new since 9/11 is the
chilling realization that the terrorist threat we thought we had contained"
now menaces "our survival as a nation."

But how is our survival as a nation menaced when not one American has
died in a terrorist attack on U.S. soil since 9/11? Are we really in
imminent peril of a holocaust like that visited upon the Jews of Poland?

"A radical strain within Islam," says Perle, " ... seeks to overthrow our
civilization and remake the nations of the West into Islamic societies,
imposing on the whole world its religion and laws."

Well, yes. Militant Islam has preached that since the 7th century. But what
are the odds the Boys of Tora Bora are going to "overthrow our
civilization" and coerce us all to start praying to Mecca five times a day?

The American Conservative

1. Buchanan hates the NeoCons
Remember that he's more in line with the "classic conservative" school of thought. Perle and the Bush junta in his eyes are "Liberals".

2. Yeah, I know.
I don't agree with Pat about much, he has some, uh, bigoted
characteristics too, but he sure does a fine job of eviscerating
these fuckwits. It takes one to know one I suppose.

I kindof respect him; he hasn't changed. His party got taken over by neo-cons (more like American fascist or Big Brother/Corporate Whore Govt)

3. I find it very strange to be agreeing with Buchanan so much
after disagreeing with him so vehemently over the years, but I have to admit that he's been spot on over the last couple years.

We need the true conservatives in our corner for this one. The neocons do not believe in democracies or republics. They only believe in tyranny and theocracy. Any TRUE republican should be disgusted by the action of the Bush maladministration, IMO.

5. He was almost gushing over Edwards on Hardball last night.
I think I can adopt that phrase, "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" on some of his viewpoints.

To try to pretend that the regime of chimp and chechny aren't as thick as thieves with the neo-cons is a joke. These killers of questionable allegiance and ludicrous idelogical pretense, permit the regime an out to their hair brained strategic schemes designed to favor the oil, defense, Israel, and christian fundy coalition. They are part of the glue that holds it together. They are however expendable, at least arguably, for electoral purposes, as now we are assured that the chimp in his royal brillance has seen the light.

To say that the repukes excel in foreign policy means to the BFEE that they are in tight with the scheming cabals of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Israel and that anything goes in the great game. To say that any of these nations intelligence services had nothing to do with 911 is suspect. All are guilty until proven innocent along with our own intelligence (IMHO). They thought they were helping our hapless leadership with its draconian and unpopular agenda by smoothing the path for terrorism. The great event that all in the CFR pantheon (left and right) prayed for, mobilized America. My personal perception is that the intelligence services of Germany and France also play a double game, secretly encouraging the bizarre schemes of global domination by the neo-cons while publicly opposing us. The ultimate objective of these schemes from our so-called allies is either or both: to cut us down to size and thereby aid in our decline or simply to use us as best they can for their own purposes.

I regret to say that it is only the effectiveness of the Iraqi resistance to American occupation that even causes the disingenous and implausible apologia from the "true" conservative.

11. Interesting comments.
I would not be surprised to see some or all of the neocon
"theoreticians" sacrificed for the greater good. A jolly show
that, if and when it occurs. Watching Conrad Black thrash around
has been most amusing too. I hope he gets to do the perp walk soon.

One must assume that all information coming from the "intelligence"
services is, at best, misdirection, whether true or not.

I found this story interesting:

Syria and Iran aiding militants, Iraq says...

This seemed rather obvious to me, to be expected, given the threats
bandied about. If I were Syria or Iran I would be doing everything
in my power to make things unpleasant in Iraq in order to keep
Uncle Sugar well occupied and too busy to consider other activites.
I have no doubt that one reason behind the "plan" to "turn over
sovereignty" in June is the desire to free our forces for more
rewarding activities. There is also the need to avoid having our
forces seen to be degraded into ordinariness in public there.

The notion that a nation can be "given" sovereignty is in itself
rather amusing.

If I were going to make war on Iran I would do my best to give them
the warm an secure puppy feeling first, but I suspect that our
government finds the theatrical aspects of warfare more interesting
than the actual business itself, and in fact as you point out, this
may well be what has lead them astray in Iraq, the assumption that
the Iraqis could not or would not put up much of a fight, and thus
that Iraq was a suitable venue for a theatrical military demonstration.

7. Finally
A repug calling a spade a spade...In my humble opinion, Perle and Frum should be locked away somewhere where they can not influence or hurt others...For good measure, throw Wolfowitz and Ann Coulter in there as well...OK...Hannity too...

and Rush, if we can get away with it...

But enough, I digress - read on - most interesting...

8. I'm curious about this statement though
"That is why it was in our national interest to come to the defense of France and Britain in World War II. That is why we feel it necessary to defend Israel today, when its survival is threatened. No complicated geopolitical calculations of national interest are necessary."

But this is nonsense, and Kristol knows it. When Britain and France declared war on Hitler on September 3, 1939, FDR did not “come to the defense of France and Britain.” He delivered a fireside chat that night promising the nation America would stay out. There will be “no blackout of peace” here, FDR promised us.When France fell in May-June of 1940, pleading for planes, FDR sent words of encouragement. Not until 18 months after the fall of France did we declare war on Hitler and not until after Hitler declared war on us. Thus, we did not go to war to defend democracy in Britain or France. We went to war to smash the Japanese Empire that attacked us at Pearl Harbor. Kristol is parroting liberal myths.

I can only presume that Pat is referring to the first sentence That is why it was in our national interest to come to the defense of France and Britain in World War II., but I know of no liberal who believes this. I know the history, and I know the statement is BS.

10. They like to throw us off once in a while....
It's all a show.

Did Buchanan ever mention who he thought the terrorists were of 09/11? Dots back to the White House?
