Chinese slave children 'sold like cabbages'

Thousands of children are being sold "like cabbages" to China's booming factories as virtual slave labour.

Young people – some aged under 10 – are said to have been discovered being bought and sold at a street market in Sichuan, one of rural China's most overpopulated provinces.

According to investigative reporters, the children stood in line as they were assessed like cattle, before being driven on trucks to factories in the Pearl River Delta, China's manufacturing heartland.

Southern Metropolis Daily, a newspaper based in the delta, suggests that abuses remain rampant in factories despite efforts by campaigners within China and abroad.

9. sad and horrific that this is still going on, not only in China
but around the globe to a greater/lesser extent, it doesn't matter to what extent-it MATTERS that it still goes on in ANY society. Humanity's inhumane and degrading treatment of their fellow humans, animals and the earth will never be solved by MORE TECHNOLOGY or MORE SLAVES.
In the modern world, we have all enjoyed the benefits of greed=too much 'stuff' that we don't really need. This is the addictive cycle of profit & greed - and the those that sell us that "greed is a good thing" - you deserve to have more, more, more--than most of the world's population! Humanity has been on a collison course for quite awhile, now, we are slapped in the face daily with this reality-that is the only difference. The ship has sailed.

10. I don't buy Chinese ANYTHING anymore unless there is
absolutely no realistic alternate and the purchase is absolutely necessary.

And I'm not watching the Olympics.

11. Don't blame the Chinese alone
Plenty of people over here would do the same, if they had the opportunity.

14. Their children ARE slaves. The young boys are worked for no pay
until they get tossed on the street, and the girls are made into reproductive slaves.

15. It is done here. We will not acknowledge it....
"America's prison model is directly derived from slavery - the virtual imprisonment of an entire people."

The U.S. is King of the global prison hill, the result of a ferocious policy of mass Black incarceration. A new study by researchers at the Pew organization shows the U.S. is number one in numbers of prisoners per capita and sheer size of the national inmate population - many more inmates than are incarcerated in 1.2 billion population China. Seven times more Americans are locked up than during the early 1970s, when the prison explosion began, with non-whites now representing large majorities of prisoners. Mass Black incarceration is a deliberate policy of every state in the nation - a furious backlash against Black gains during the Sixties that continues unabated, disconnected from actual crime rates. Prison "reform" is a worthy goal, but the ongoing crime against African Americans as a people must be tackled head-on, by confronting the true nature of the beast.
