Dowd: Cult of Deception
They say that every president gets the psychoanalyst he deserves. And every Hamlet gets his Rosencrantz.

So now comes Scott McClellan, once the most loyal of the Texas Bushies, to reveal “What Happened,” as the title of his book promises, to turn W. from a genial, humble, bipartisan good ol’ boy to a delusional, disconnected, arrogant, ideological flop.

Although his analytical skills are extremely limited, the former White House press secretary — Secret Service code name Matrix — takes a stab at illuminating Junior’s bumpy and improbable boomerang journey from family black sheep and famous screw-up back to family black sheep and famous screw-up.

How did W. start out wanting to restore honor and dignity to the White House and end up scraping all the honor and dignity off the White House?

1. How, Maureen?
Well, he was certainly helped by pundits like you, who had a grand old time mocking and demeaning Al Gore back in 2000. Maybe if you and your cohorts had been doing your job, as in checking into the candidates and what they stood for, instead of acting like gossipy teenagers, we might not be in this predicament right now.

8. Strongly agree
Even if I can't point to a particular state that Gore lost because of Dowd's column.

9. I've read quite a few articles about the press
and how they've covered events from the Clinton administration up to the present. The best analysis has been "acting like gossipy teenagers." Congrats.:toast:

3. I'll Give MoDo Credit For This One

She does a nice job of setting forth the bizarre D.C. mindset that causes books like McClellan's to come out way after they could have done more good. And she's dead right about this as well: even though we knew "What Happened," it's valuable to have McClellan confirm it so solidly.

Those of you who are complaining about the timing of the book or about all the money McClellan might make need to take more joy in the very real, oh-so-deserved damage that his book is doing to this administration---an administration that has had to resort to personal insults against McClellan, because it can't refute the charges he's made. Rejoice, already.....

4. When she's not letting her old grudges and hang-ups motivate her writing
she's dead-on accurate. This is one of those times.

5. Interesting Tone For Her
Not unlike “something {fell out of her} into the abyss.”

Now, if only the rest of the DC/Euphemedia Analstocracy would follow along (heck, it's what they do best), we might even see some remarkable recoveries from Impeachophobia.

7. Whoreen?
I don't much care for Dowd myself but Whoreen!? That's insulting to all women and a large reason that there is so much acrimony between the Obama and Clinton camps. It's time to pay attention to how you (all of you) refer to women. Disgusting and completely negates your f***ing opinion.
