'Pressure' on Rezko to discuss Obama in doubt
LETTER TO JUDGE | Claim of interview by prosecutors is false: sources

June 16, 2008Recommend (9)

BY NATASHA KORECKI Federal Courts Reporter nkorecki@suntimes.com
In a letter to a judge publicized last week, political fund-raiser Tony Rezko said "overzealous" prosecutors pressured him to tell them "the wrong things" about presidential hopeful Barack Obama.

But that letter appears to be misleading, given that Rezko never submitted to an interview with federal prosecutors or any federal investigators, sources said.

Rezko's lawyer, Joseph Duffy, said Rezko never sat down for an interview and was never pressured directly, or indirectly, through Duffy, to talk about Obama, Gov. Blagojevich -- or anyone else.

Rezko's correspondence to U.S. District Judge Amy St. Eve came in April, in the midst of his corruption trial and as he sat in solitary confinement at a downtown lockup. Arrested in January after a bond violation, Rezko pleaded with St. Eve to release him so he could see his family and assist in his defense. She eventually did release him.

1. The Government is Corrupt, Comedic and Contemptible
For the life of me I can't figure out why Rezko would have anything to lose at this point by ratting on Obama--right? And I'm going out on a limb here supposing that the prosecutors also believed this to be the case when they sought to pressure the guy to give up Obama--right? And Rezko being an easy target now that is is behind bars wouldn't want to write a letter to the judge claiming that the prosecutors were unfairly trying to have him roll on Obama--right? So why then would Rezko's attorney or someone associated with the case come out two days later and state that Rezko got it all wrong--chiming in that the man is confused. No, I think Rezko got it right the first time--and that the feds are going outside of normal channels in their contemptible zeal trying to bring Obama down by having Rezko fabricate some story about the man. Is this America or 1950's Yugoslavia? Our corrupt government is going to do everything within it's realm and then some to bring Obama down in disgrace before this election. They do not want this BLACK MAN to move forward. Obama may not be a patron saint but I do believe that his association with Rezko is superficial--and not a longstanding relationship that would entail Rezko having "the goods" on Obama. You can rest assured that if Rezko had the goods no Obama, the BLACK MAN would not be in this race at this point. And another thing--we all know that Rezko DID SUBMIT TO AN INTERVIEW with the feds. The feds were all over this. I also believe that Rezko to his credit decided that he would be a man and do the right thing and not scurrilously finger someone that investigators previously said was not involved in a complicit crime. What next? Will the government doctor some old photos to show a young precocious Obama seated on Rap Brown's lap? Our rogue government under the tutelage of Bush and Cheney can't seem to accept that this "BLACK MAN" has beaten their boy John McCain and it ain't November yet! If they succeed at some point before November in getting someone to speak "the wrong things" about Obama you can best believe that there will be Hell to pay. We're well on a way into a fascist world.
