Dobson accuses Obama of 'distorting' Bible
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - As Barack Obama broadens his outreach to evangelical voters, one of the movement's biggest names, James Dobson, accuses the likely Democratic presidential nominee of distorting the Bible and pushing a "fruitcake interpretation" of the Constitution.

The criticism, to be aired Tuesday on Dobson's Focus on the Family radio program, comes shortly after an Obama aide suggested a meeting at the organization's headquarters here, said Tom Minnery, senior vice president for government and public policy at Focus on the Family.

The conservative Christian group provided The Associated Press with an advance copy of the pre-taped radio segment, which runs 18 minutes and highlights excerpts of a speech Obama gave in June 2006 to the liberal Christian group Call to Renewal. Obama mentions Dobson in the speech.

"Even if we did have only Christians in our midst, if we expelled every non-Christian from the United States of America, whose Christianity would we teach in the schools?" Obama said. "Would we go with James Dobson's or Al Sharpton's?" referring to the civil rights leader.

1. If they fully state Obama's position,
I think most people will decide who the "fruitcake" is--Dobson. It is people like him who have distorted the Bible.

6. Which Bible?
To the Catholic Church, quoting the King James Bible would be a distortion.

Does Dobson really want to go down THAT path?

8. "distorting the Bible" ?? you mean like making up something called the "rapture"
which is mentioned no where in no way in any book in any edition of any Bible.

That kind of distortion?

These guys really do live in an alternate reality.

11. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. Dobson's job is to make
himself rich and powerful by distorting the teachings of Jesus. Love thy neighbor, Dobson. Did you ever read the Beatitudes, you poor excuse for a breathing organism?

12. Iraq War
Actually, this Dobson was an early supporter of the Iraq War.

He has a lot of blood on his hands, including that of some Iraqi Christians.

13. You just have to laugh.
The funny thing about Dobson is that his sheeplike followers take his every word as Gospel, while everyone else can plainly see he's full of crap. He's kind of like bush in that way. Or any of a dozen other authoritarian, right-wing blowhards.

I hope Dobson enjoys his "moment in the sun". After November, nobody will care what Republicans think, just like we don't care what the American Nazi Party thinks now.

14. My formerly "born again" sister used to think Dobson was great -
funny thing though, she never stopped being a Democrat and found herself marginalized in her Christian community because of it. I think that fact drove her away from her "christian" community more than anything else.
