Drill Drill Drill
Would somebody please drill Larry "Drill Drill Drill" Kudlow with two jabs and a haymaker right cross and put an end to this pukes existance. T Boone Pickens has the real answers to our energy crisis and its not Drill Drill Drill!

3. Thanks for the link.
My husband caught Pickens on CNBC this morning & told me about his "Saudia Arabia of wind power" comment. The wind map at your link is great!

4. environmental impact from wind turbines
What are the expected impacts to the environment if such a great number of wind turbines are used?

It's not like Solar, we'd be basically "taking" the wind. Surely the wind that travels over the planes goes somewhere and there are currently impacts to the local environment due to those winds. Maybe it helps bird migration or maybe certain plant life rely on those winds for some purpose.

By harnessing the wind, that wind would be diminished and it would have different impacts.

Are there any studies on this?

5. Do you have a link to support this claim?
"By harnessing the wind, that wind would be diminished and it would have different impacts."

Wind is not diminished by blowing through wind turbines.

http://www.thenergyservices.com/business/renewable_energy/wind/index.cfm

snip...

Wind power is a renewable green energy source using wind to create electricity. This does not diminish wind resources and it is considered green because wind power is a non-polluting source of energy.

Wind power is harnessed by wind turbines. When the wind blows, air flows over the blades(1) of the wind turbine to create lift, the same effect as with an airplane wing or sail. The lift from the blades causes the rotor (2) to turn. The rotor is connected to the generator (3) where mechanical energy caused by the rotation is converted to electrical energy. The electricity produced at the generator is routed down the tower to an inverter(4), which converts the electricity to a fixed voltage and frequency that can flow to the transformer(5) for distribution.

6. No, I don't
It was merely logical thinking.

It may not have material impact, and if not, that's great. But when you add friction to wind (any impediment to the wind), it would reduce the power wind. It's physics.

But if that impact is negligible, then that's great. That was the point of my question. I hear all about wind farms being the answer, and I was just curious how meaningful the impact was to the wind energy.

I was asking a question, thanks for the link.

7. I was asking too, cuz I had never heard that harnessing the wind
would diminish it.

Welcome to DU.

8. If you have a vacuum that can "blow" and "suck" (dirty)
Put it on blow. Put your hand about 2 or 3 feet away and feel how hard the wind is.

The put a fan between the hose and your hand. The fan will start to move, and you will feel materially less wind on your hand. The wind acts as power and moves the fan blade. The fan has effectively taken the wind to create power, and the result is less wind gets through to your hand

Obviously the fatter the fan blade, the more it will lessen the wind (and wind turbines are much thinner - so maybe that's why they are saying it has no effect - because, while there HAS to be SOME effect, it is comparatively tiny, and essentially negligiable). But the fact is, there WILL be an impact, I was curious if there had been any studies on exactly how small it is.

2. But, but, but, we got to drill, drill, drill in environmentally destructive areas so big oil can
export even more millions of barrels per day 'cause that's good for 'murika. :D
