What It's Like To Watch FOX News For 24 Straight Hours
July 13, 2008

Because I am a decent, thinking person, I despise FOX News. I believe I have good reason to do this. And yet, because I'm a bleeding-heart liberal who likes to have the facts before spewing prejudices, I feel duty-bound to give FOX a chance. So I'm going to watch 24 straight hours of FOX.

I know what you are thinking. "He is a madman!" you say. "He'll make his eyes fall out and his ears bleed!" Perhaps. But I have convinced myself that it will be worth it, if only so I can count the number of times Brit Hume's jowls bob up and down over the course of a broadcast.

I have decided to commence my torture at 9p.m. I've been deliberately waiting until after The O'Reilly Factor. I'm not sure that I can take that kind of horror straight off. I need to build up to it, like trying to boil a frog. I'll watch Bill tomorrow. For now, I'll ease into it with some less unpleasant FOX programming.

What I'd forgotten is that Hannity & Colmes is the 9p.m. program.

1. Will Pitt did ones of these
years ago. It was hysterical. Someone who knows how to use the DU search function should dig it out. It was before 9/11 back when they were covering Chandra Levy and shark attacks.

5. It's been many a year since I have braved it.
I don't know exactly when it was that it turned so ugly that I had to hide my eyes. Sometime during the Clinton administration, I guess.

Well, to much. But good for you and best of luck.

Maybe you should plan a detox as well.

11. I didn't write the article.
Just ran across it at HuffPo and shared it here. I'm not able to endure 24 hours of torture like that.

Edited on Wed Jul-16-08 10:53 PM by cbc5g
John Oliver once watched FOX for eight hours, and said afterward that "I may have lost something deep down in my soul."

20. John Oliver also said this:
"If you go into the Fox newsroom and hit someone in the face, deep down they know they deserved it."

9. One of my friends I have known since childhood
comes close to doing that every day. He and his wife actually believe Faux is "Fair and Balanced" because they say so, and they refuse to watch anything else because they are biased. The guy is upset every day about not drilling in ANWR or off shore, someone burning a flag or gays getting married in California. I have suggested he just turn off the cable news channels and forget about all that BS and he wouldn't be so upset all the time. But he isn't the only one, it seems everyday I hear someone quote some Faux news bullshit.

15. I watched A Fox Story Yesterday
They have great tease lines, this one was environmentalist group opposed to green energy. I was sucked in an had to watch, the story was about a hundred acre wind farm in Kansas built in 6 months. They explained the building process and how the wind was always available at that height.

They never mentioned the environmentalist group that supposedly opposed it or mentioned any one that was opposed. It was perhaps short attention span theater

16. Very Funny Article
So who else out there travels for work? All I see on every television in every airport all over the country is FOX News. The mindless just sit and take it all in as they wait for their delayed plane. It drives me nuts. It is such crap and the tone is confrontational and ugly. I don't understand how people can watch. It is not just airports, it is most public places.

Free and rational thought will go the way of the Dodo. Sadly, it is easier to be told what to think and many are fine with that. I just hope the majority is willing to resist the path of least resistance.
