Dear, "Recreate 68"......
Ok...so the Democratic convention was not a success. But if you are still around for the GOP convention, knock yourself out! Unless Gustav does the job for you! I'm sorry you missed the 1968. Maybe someday they'll will invent a time machine!

ANOTHER ANARCHIST FOR OBAMA! THINK ABOUT IT!

Do these jerks know what happened in 1968?

Obviously not.

3. A pro war Democratic Party failed to provide opposition to a pro war Republic Party

and lost the election to a criminal.

Deja vu, all over again.

This time the protesters were more restrained and did not allow the militarized police to create a riot.

5. Actually they do.
They were going to stir it up with black ops, just like they did then.

Two things made them call off the Denver operation. First that business with the Nazi crackheads who had a plot to kill Obama. I believe that made the Denver PD and the Secret Service step up their game even more. They might have gone too far in their treatment of some legitimate protestors, like the woman from Code Pink.

Then when Hillary's speech, Bill's speech, and Hillary's call to suspend the roll call vote left the PUMA street theater group without a reason to exist, they had no choice but to pull the plug. When you don't have a scapegoat to blame your planned riots on, they just aren't as much fun anymore.

Poor CIA thugs. :(

6. Welcome to DU, Sebastian
That's a cogent theory, but when the 1968 riots took place, they were populated by a lot of people who were honestly there to protest LBJ's horrific Vietnam dealings. But they were overtaken by the antics of Jerry Rubin and Abbie Hoffman, who turned the whole thing into really bad and destructive street theater. After that, the good Mayor Daley was free to set his hounds on the crowds, and their use of violence was unrestrained.

I believe then, and I believe now, that Rubin and Hoffman were informants, that they were working for some government agency, and that they had about as much interest in stopping the war as they did in making sure those kids in the demonstrations were safe.

7. Pretty much my point exactly
And thanks for the welcome, btw....

I believe in legitimate protest movements, and no doubt there were some in Denver, just as there were in Chicago, just as there were at the WTO demonstrations in Seattle in 1999, and probably every other significant political event in between.

I'll take your word on Rubin & Hoffman, since I was still in diapers when those guys were on the scene, but I'm convinced that the masked "anarchists" at WTO were on the government payroll, and that "recreate 68" was about recreating the worst of Chicago, not the best of it. With the same ultimate objective in mind, electing a Republican candidate whose chances otherwise were looking pretty pathetic. Now that they were cheated out of their party, and there doesn't seem to be a show in the Twin Cities for them to play at, it makes you wonder what their next strategy will be.

8. I'm sitting here, nodding
You were in diapers and I'd just returned from a college year abroad to a country I hardly recognized. A lot of my friends were in Chicago - all on the level - and a couple were badly hurt. Yet, we still believe.

Their next move? I don't know. That's a good question, but we can be certain of one thing: when we see it, we'll know it.

10. Recreate '17!
The spirit of 1917, when anti-war activists were jailed for "espionage." Leading to heroic courtroom speeches like the one by Eugene Debs, followed by his landmark presidential campaign conducted from jail!
