E.J. Dionne: Keeping Palin Under Wraps
from Truthdig:

Keeping Palin Under Wraps

Posted on Sep 8, 2008
By E.J. Dionne

John McCain’s campaign acknowledged this weekend that Sarah Palin is unprepared to be vice president or president of the United States.

Of course, McCain’s people said no such thing. But their actions told you all you needed to know.

McCain, Barack Obama and Joe Biden all subjected themselves to tough questioning on the regular Sunday news programs. Palin was the only no-show. And it’s not just the Sunday interviews. She has not opened herself to any serious questioning since McCain picked her to be next in line for the presidency.

McCain’s advisers clearly don’t trust Palin to answer questions about policy, and don’t want her to answer many of the questions that have been raised about her tenure as governor of Alaska.

Rick Davis, McCain’s campaign manager, gave the game away when he said on “Fox News Sunday” that she would not meet with reporters until they showed a willingness to treat her “with some level of respect and deference.”

Deference? That’s a word used in monarchies or aristocracies. Democracies don’t give “deference” to politicians. When have McCain, Obama, Biden or, for that matter, Hillary Clinton asked for deference? ......(more)

2. Duers, this is why GOP wins. They form firewalls and defend
their own, daring the Media to interfere.

"We will permit Palin to be questioned when people show her
respect and DEFERENCE".

I hate to say it, but Democrats ssquirm under Media scrutiny.

If the Democrats had pulled a Lefty out of nowhere, they would have been
run out of town and and cowered under Media.

The GOP has pulled a Right Wing Cultural Conservative out of the
hat and get away with it.

I thought we as a country wanted more centrist approach.Sarcasm)

I hand it to GOP, they stand their ground .

5. Democrats can't pull the same trick because they don't own the media
If they try to freeze out the media, they will cease to exist in the public mind.

3. yes she can
GOP doesn't debate
'
'they sling sound bites

she won't even know what she's saying most of the time

it will sound something like

"we'll make responsible decisions with the resources .....I told my nanny to stop cooking....I wouldn't stand in the way of Progress, oh no. I told Congress thanks but no thanks, shame on you congress! trying to waste money! I love mooseburgers! I'm just a hockey mom like you, and I keep my brood under control like a good mommy and I can do the same for Washington. Yup yup. like you, I've balanced a family budget so I think I can put washington into order!" smug laugh. " my kids don't like it when we cut back on Christmas gifts...but we're an American Family. My opponent (tracy flick accent) likes to say he's helped america but I had real responsibilities." puke puke sound bite sound bite. she will also be wired with a wireless ear so Rove can whisper answers into her empty, soulless brain.

The media will say what a "Pit bull star" she is -- the Little Lady took on Biden and won!

Meanwhile, in Reality Land, thinking people across the world will be staring at the britney Spears for VP person they just heard spew non-answers for hours in horror.

I have faith we are going to win this thing -- but debates?

That's really a liberal thing. It's intellectual. Real debating. You've noticed pukes can't debate? they talk over other people and don't agree on facts, but spout insane opinions? that isn't debating.

The country is watching Dancing with the Stars.

4. Contessa Brewer totally owned that Pfunkenpfiler or whatever her name is this morning.
CB brought up all the right points and coaxed out obvious McCain talking points despite twice in one segment not having the video she was talking about come up on screen. (Heads should roll in the control room over this; it was sloppy and slipshod.)

6. A lady in line this morning at Rite Aid...
As told to me by my coworker, pointed out to him all the mags and rags at the checkout, mostly portraying positve Obama covers and stories, and questionable, prying Palin stories. "just look how biased the liberal press is, humph, hurumph." He said it's just bathroom reading anyway, if you want news go to the BBC.
