Nothing funny about Obama losing, funnyman Woody Allen says
SAN SEBASTIAN, Spain (AFP) - US filmmaker Woody Allen, best known for such comedy classics as "Annie Hall," says it will be no laughing matter if Barack Obama fails to win the race for the White House.

"It would be a disgrace and a humiliation if Barack Obama does not win," he told Spanish journalists at the ongoing 56th San Sebastian film festival, where his latest film "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" is being screened.

"It would be a very, very terrible thing for the United States in many, many ways," he said.

Democratic hopeful Obama, Allen said, is "so much better" than Republican rival John McCain, and "represents a huge step upward from (the) incompetence and misjudgement" of the Bush administration. . . .

Damned straight, Woody.

1. A quote I found:
If Jesus Christ came back today and saw what was being done in his name,

he'd never stop throwing up.

5. RE-reconsider. He's a montebank.
Ignoring his sexual misdeeds, he's deceived people (especially the intelligencia) into believing he's a filmmaker with taste and quality. He sure fooled me in those years when Mel Brooks and other genuine comic talents weren't making movies. Just because he SEEMS to like Obama doesn't forgive him years of pedophilia and egocentric movie disasters.

In fact, I think he is praising Obama because he believes that might make him likeable again. Fat chance.

6. Tell us what you really think!
I disagree, but I like the fact that you don't mince words.

Entertaining post!

7. Thanks. Unlike McCain, I don't like lying.
And as long as I am being honest...I really, REALLY tried to like Woody Allen. At one point in college I bought a two-LP set of his standup comedy. I listened to that thing for days trying to find the humor in his standup. And in the massive comedy draught before Mel Brooks arrived, I saw some of his movies several times. I remember going to a drive-in in Columbus (before catching a late train to visit my home in St. Louis) that was running a triple feature of Allen films.

Eventually, it seeped even into my concrete head. Allen is an egotistical prick. He can't understand or have sympathy for anyone outside his own skin. Which is why his Obama support is worthless.

The only really funny thing was not Allen himself, but Rick Moranis playing Allen (to Dave Thomas's great Bob Hope impression) in the SCTV skit "Play It Again, Bob." It showed that conservative and hide-bound and stuck to his joke files as Hope was, he was more entertaining and honest about himself than Allen ever was.

ALLEN (to camera): I can't believe this. Can you people believe this?

HOPE: Who are you talking to? The camera? I can talk to the camera! (to camera) Hello, ladies 'n' gentlemen. How're you doing?

ALLEN: It doesn't matter. I can cut it in editing.

HOPE: Not without talking to my agent. (to camera, pointing towards Allen) By the way, folks, I don't have an agent...I'm with William Morris!

ALLEN (to camera) Okay, that's it. Cut!

3. I'm a huge fan of the Woodman

Arguably the best comic talent this country has ever produced, and a most valuable in his dramatic pieces, shows he also knows his politics. "Crimes and Misdemeanors" is still one of my top 10 movies of all time. And it's an absolute crime what's been going on in this country for the last 8 years. Actually before that under the Clinton ad I'd still consider that a misdemeanor. I just hope we can pull this thing off for Barack.

4. Exactly
I am sick of listening to comedians-who-act-like-pundits, like Jay Leno, dismiss the prospect of a McCain victory as "no big deal," or an Obama loss as a "funny joke."

All of us dying isn't funny, you asshole.

Anyone who treats this election like a sport is either a dangerous moron or else has a death wish.
