Have Repubicans Vanished? Ask a Republican!
by Bill Hare | September 19, 2008 - 6:48pm

For the first time in American politics one major party has suddenly vanished without an apparent trace.

It was illuminating to view Chris Matthews on “Hardball” earlier this week seeking to discover what happened to the suddenly vanished breed previously referred to as the American Republican Party. In the manner of a resolute anthropologist Matthews sought out the digs of political America in search of the suddenly vanished breed.

snip//

Based on the Republican approach over campaign cycles beginning particularly with the assault on reason of the “feel good” campaigns of Ronald Reagan extending to the “Willie Horton” George H.W. Bush smear campaign extending to Bush and Cheney and now the “deserting Republicans” of McCain’s 2008 effort, the operatives of big money, tax cuts for the rich and general neglect of the middle class, save seeking their votes, Harris told us what the neocon generation of Republicans are really all about.

After shipwrecking the economy through irresponsible tax cuts combined with foreign misadventure highlighted by a war launched on lies to benefit corporate interests, highlighted by oil, the party that brought us these catastrophes seeks to reinvent itself by refusing to admit that they ever previously existed.

Republicans no longer admit to what they are, and particularly where they have been and what they have done.

They have become a sorry version of the old B Western line. When asked “Where are the Republicans?” the appropriate response is to point in the distance and say, “They went that away!”

1. They're all going to keep a very low profile
once the magnitude of the financial swindle set into motion by St. Reagan starts to become known.

No, the dopes who voted GOP didn't benefit from it. However, they'll dimly realize they will be blamed as its enablers.

2. Indeed, Ma'am
In the local Congressional race advertisements that are starting to crop up on my television, you can tell who the Republican is because the advertisement states no party affiliation at all, while the Democrats always close with 'My name here: Democrat for Congress'....

3. same thing around here. Also the Gop candidates aren't even campaigning
Of course they never seem to show up in our neck of the woods but at least they blanketed the place with signs and bumperstickers. now you hardly see either one. Only on the land of really big land owners.

Still spouting the rhetoric, though.

9. Independant Conservatives
I cant remember the last time I hear the word Republican. They are like Saddam's followers. They just disband and try to blend into society without being noticed.

Ever so often, the Republicans actually go hide, from embarrassment or somesuch. But they're always back soon enough, their little eyes shining with greed
