I, for one, will not mourn the passing of the American Empire.

As the common people of Britain discovered between about 1700 and 1950, being a lowly cog in the empire is not a happy fate.

All we have to do in order to bring great prosperity to these shores is to quit supporting a military larger than those of everyone else combined; put our resources into the development and distribution of new information and energy technologies; rebuild our educational systems and free our universities from the grip of the corporations, and build a sane and humane system of caring for each other.

We don't need no stinkin' empire.
