Chairs for Obama??? (Showing we care) |
|
Many people will have to wait a long time in lines before voting. Some of the people will be elderly. Should the Obama campaign publicly ask people to bring lawn chairs to the polls for the day so that people who need to can sit while waiting in line? Does anyone foresee any problems with this? It seems to me it would be a good idea.

1. You can take chairs for people who are way back in line -- |

There is a part of the line near where you sign in and vote that is called the "chute" in Indiana and no one is allowed in the chute except for voters, poll workers, and people with credentials from the campaigns or parties. The size (length) of the chute most likely differs from one state to another. I think you can certainly take chairs to any locations where the line extends beyond the chute. The poll workers may be happy to have the chairs close to the voting machines if you offer them before election day, but once the polls open you may not be able to get the chairs into the polling place.
Talk to your local Obama campaign staff or local Democratic Party to find out more about your area.
