Seed Endorses Obama

Barack Obama for President

An endorsement from the editors of Seed.

by The Editors • Posted October 29, 2008 03:00 PM

Our world is more complex, dynamic, and interdependent than at any time in recent history. Financial markets are in turmoil, geopolitical conflicts abound, and our pale blue dot is in serious peril. Yet these are also times for great optimism — about what can be known and what can be accomplished, about our potential to discover and innovate. To navigate this new reality, to realize opportunity within this massive change, we need a new approach to governance and problem solving; we need a new way of looking at the world and a new set of values founded on the conviction that knowledge is good; and we need leaders who have the courage and wisdom to change their mind in the face of new evidence. Today we stand at an inflection point in modern history, and America, still inarguably and essentially the world's beacon, will chart the way forward next Tuesday. At this critical moment, we offer an endorsement and a

1. Obama as Beacon
If I had a friend who was for McCain, I'm afraid they really wouldn't be my friend anymore. And not just because of politics...it would be that I would come to realize that my friend doesn't THINK or that they can't FEEL or that they have no COMPASSION and that they just weren't on the same PAGE as I am. I think this election has taught me more than anything else how different from me that people for McCain are (from me if you know what I'm trying to say here). I've realized that most people who are for McCain aren't really FOR him so much as they are AGAINST Obama (really, I think they're closet racists) and I don't want that in a friendship or a family member for that matter. I've also learned (via Margaret & Helen) that there are a lot of really good people in the world who aren't afraid to express their GOOD thoughts about things and that they ready to ACT on those good thoughts...I think I've come to trust more people because of Obama and THAT is the biggest surprise of his campaign...whether he wins or loses, he's taught me some really important things this year (things I needed to remember) and I'll always be grateful to him for that! I'm so happy everytime I see a new endorsement for a man who really has become a BEACON for some of the old values that I am no longer afraid to say are IMPORTANT in the world as well as the sewer we call politics. Thank you SEED MAGAZINE!

3. Thank you!
Thank you so much for your welcome...DU is so huge and diverse that it's downright scary, but I am so happy to have found a place where the rights of gays, minorities, women, men, majorities, and even politicians are respected and valued. I feel as if I've found the Mother-lode (Goddess;) ) of Wisdom and it fills me with joy to be part of it! Thanks again...you've helped make it a little less frightening!
